When You're Gone

When you're gone,

I can pretend

That you're nothing more

Than a friend.

When you're gone,

When we're apart,

You are almost absent

From my heart.

When you're gone,

When you're not there,

I can say

That I don't care.

When you're gone,

When you're away,

I almost think

That's it's okay.

Then you show up,

The moment I believe I'm free.

Then you show up,

The fire comes rushing back to me.

I get caught up

In what I thought was left behind.

When you show up,

I'm still left wishing you were mine.

When you're gone,

I wonder why

You made me laugh,

You made me cry.

When you're gone,

Then I don't know

Why I let you

Hurt me so.

When you're gone,

I can see clearly.

Why did I hold you

So dearly?

When you're gone,

You're gone away,

That's the way

I wish you'd stay.

Then you show up,

And there's nothing left to do

When you show up,

Then run and throw my arms around you.

I may choke up,

Because those damn feelings all return

When you show up.

You make me freeze, you make me burn.

The say absence makes the heart grow fond,

But I live only when you're gone.
