The glint of silver
As it is held
Motionlessly
In the air
Causes you to smile serenely.
Horrified,
Your sister can only watch
Helplessly
As the metal makes its way
Rapidly
Through your arm.
Screaming,
She begs you to stop.
She cannot bear to look.
You watch
Languidly
As the tiny droplets of blood
Drip delicately
Onto the floor.
Fragile.
They are like your life;
Oozing slowly out of your grasp.
Deeper.
No turning back.
Your sister’s mouth is moving
Silently.
You no longer listen to her;
Or anyone.
What is the point?
The splatters become quicker.
Your breathing is laboured,
Yet you marvel
At the realisation that this
Is the easiest thing
You’ve ever done.
Tiredness.
You are overcome with
The urge to sleep
Just like all the times before.
This time, you think,
This time I will not wake up.
Forever.
The thought pleases you
And you close your eyes
Drowsily.
You can hear the screaming again
And the desperate pleas
Of your parents
As they tell you that they’re sorry;
That you’ll all sit down and work things out.
Too late, you think maliciously.
Finally you will be able to cause them
All the pain
That they caused you.
It’s their fault I’m alive.
