Rain falls in the darkness,

Each drop a tiny note

Playing upon the eaves,

Music to the stars above.

A cool gentle hand

Almost wishing to reach through glass

As if it could soothe the fever

Of the silent storm within.

Lightning strikes behind closed eyes.

They flutter in the dreaming

While her heart beats like thunder

And sweat pours like rain.

The outline of a face,

A time-faded memory.

It smiles like a summer breeze

But soon grows angry like the storm.

Angry to be forgotten,

Though it haunts her every night,

Proving lightning really can strike

The same place twice.

In the morning the sun shines,

The birdsongs reach her ears.

Soft lips brush her cheek.

Smiling and sighing,

She settles into loving arms.

But even though now all is well,

The storm is never far, and

That face won’t leave her mind.
