She took his breath away just standing there. A simple black skirt and modest halter top accented her lithe body. Smiling down at her, he thanked his lucky stars for her influence in his life. Gathering her into his arms, he whisked her out to the dance floor and leaned down to rest his forehead against hers. Closing his eyes he took a deep breath, loving the gentle scent of lilies emanating from her soft skin.

Wrapping her arms around his neck, she glanced up at him shyly. She had been unsure initially, but when he had taken her into his arms she had gone with it. Closing her eyes she smiled slightly as one of his hands rest on her back, the other around her waist. Resting her head against his broad shoulder, she relaxed and followed his lead, swaying softly back and forth.

He thought about how good it felt to hold her close to him. Time seemed to slow down for him and all he could think about was the girl in his arms and how deeply he cared for her. He rested his cheek lightly on the top of her head as they continued to rock back and forth. This was everything he had always imagined it would be.

She didn't allow herself to think about anything else for a moment. With her head still against his chest she could feel his heart pounding beneath her ear and took comfort in its steady beat. She was bit surprised at how perfectly she fit under his chin and how she seemed to melt into him. When he pulled her in a bit closer she didn't resist; rather, she tightened her arms round his neck.

He willed the song to keep going. It was too soon; he didn't ever want to let her go. Leaning down he gently kissed her forehead and whispered “I love you.” Her eyes snapped open, looking up at him in surprise. Her strong grip loosened and she slowly backed away from him. His heart almost broke in two as she walked up to his best friend in the whole world and wrap her arms around him. His friend responded in like tilting her head up and gently kissing her. He was in love with his best friend's girlfriend and there was nothing he could do about it.
