My Grandma’s Treasure
My Grandma's house is full of treasures
Boxes and draws of secret pleasures
Of these objects three catch my eye
And forever after will stay clear in my mind
-
A pocket mirror, at first dull and old
When wiped with my sleave is shining gold
It tells a tale of beauty and vanity
Jealousy and envy, flaws of humanity
-
A dusty old book, paper yellowed with age
I fear it will cumble when I turn the page
It amazes me that in this plain looking thing
Lie adventurous stories of knights and kings
-
A joker card with its edges frayed
Separated from the deck after a prank he’d played
Mischievous eyes, cheeky grin
I rescued him from my Grandma’s bin
-
My Grandma’s house is full of treasures
Boxes and draws of secret pleasures
A mirror, a novel and a playing card I found
In that magical place whilst looking around
A/N: I wrote this poem for class. We had to write about three objects. Mine were a pocket mirror, a very old copy of The Three Musketeers and a joker card.
