The Saddest Thing
On the sidewalk my head in my hands
My mind spins round and round like a fan
The smell of smoke fills the air
And dust and ashes cling to my hair
-
The sound of screams ring in my ears
The sound of a hundred peoples’ fears
The heat of the blaze burns my skin
Lashing out in the raucous din
-
The horror of it all is overwhelming
The smell of ashes and death and burning
I feel a presence at my side
It’s the saddest thing a heart-wrenching cry
-
I turn my head and stare in amazement
As I see a beautiful white winged maiden
She looks around with tears in her eyes
It’s the saddest thing when an angel cries
