She stirred in her sleep. At the edge of her mind she heard a voice, vaguely familiar, calling to her...
Jen...
Nie...
Jen...
It sounded odd, distorted but alike to one she knew too well. She rolled to her left and reached from under the covers for her lamp’s switch.
She screamed with pain, and felt something dig into her arm, the blood flowing freely. She pulled it back and saw the deep gash, screamed again.
“Greg!”
She shouted for him, rolled to her right, expecting him to be there, hold her, make it all better...
Nothing.
She looked up...
“Gre-“
She stopped herself mid-word.
This wasn’t Greg...
She saw a long, spindly body silhouetted against her window, head triangular and far too strangely shaped to be human. She saw its face clearly though; huge yellow eyes unblinkingly staring at her. She reached for the lamp again, turned it on, and screamed.
Its tiny, though gaping mouth was expelling breath that condensed before her eyes, as if the... monster emitted an aura of cold.
She jumped out of her bed not looking back and dashed out the open door, stumbling in the darkness. She slammed into her flatmates door, turning the handle desperately, screaming out to them, jumping and slamming into it over and over. It wouldn’t open. There was no reply.
She turned on her heels, and saw it advancing upon her, ever staring...
She flew down the stairs, opened the sitting room door and saw only black. She took one step in, and pulled herself back on the door frame. No floor. She ran down the corridor to another room. Same again. She looked back, saw it following again... the speed it was going, it should still be upstairs...
She dashed through the kitchen door.
The floor was there. All was same. She wanted one thing. She ran across the room, and grabbed a long knife from the rack, hands sweaty from fear. She turned around, and saw it was ever pursuing, closing in...
She screamed again, in pain, as the knife slipped from her fingers and fell, pinning her foot in place.
She saw its rows of teeth, too many for its mouth, a gaping hole in decaying flesh.
Saw hands, a multitude of blades, stained red, pointing at her...
She screamed.
