A/N: Could someone tell me how to format a poem so that it isn't double spaced? I can't seem to get the program to let me format it how I want it to be. Thanks!

Castle

There was a wall around my heart,

A wall of solid stone,

Its mighty strength did shelter me

But kept me all alone.

I sat inside this citadel

Upon the cold, grey throne,

And safe from all men's treachery,

My solitude did bemoan.

I longed for Love to pierce the wall,

To fill my lonely hours,

I wanted Cupid's shaft to fall

And fill my heart with flowers.

So when you came into my life

You found my walls quite weak;

You took this opportunity

And loving words did speak.

Piece by piece and stone by stone

My fortress did come down,

And on your head of chestnut hair

You placed the golden crown.

And as a king you were quite shrewd,

You knew just what to do:

You built up all the walls again

So no one could get through.

And so we lived for some short time,

A time that seemed full bliss,

But it was then the lies began,

Betrayal with a kiss.

Out of my heart was I then thrown

And Truth at last revealed:

You never felt the strong passion

Which you professed to feel.

While conquering this kingdom,

The kingdom of my heart,

You inspired many feelings

Of which you shared no part.

And so it was I found myself

Expelled from my own palace,

The king had built the walls too high;

My love repaid with malice.

But king you were, and king remained,

Though I had long since fled,

You kept the castle of my heart

And thought of me as dead.

Locked out of what had been my heart

And left with out the key,

I wander through a foreign land,

Just misery and me.

And so I wander to this day

With nothing but this tale,

Without a heart, without a home,

Along this lonely trail.
