A Night Full Of Colours
By: K
They were sitting there. Like us. Just sitting. Just listening to the music.
Two boys, two girls. You would think that it were two couples. But then the question arrived. Couples? Yes. But who with who?
A black haired boy right in front of me. Next to him was the other boy. Brown hair. Then the two girls. One with brown hair. The other one blond.
It was dark. Sometimes when they turned their heads, you could catch a glimpse of their face. The smiles on their lips. Yet mostly their eyes were kept hidden. I have never really seen the colour of their orbs.
The raven haired teen turned his head. Whispering something in the other one’s ear. Well, whispering… Perhaps he would have done so if he didn’t have to shout to be heard above the music.
Firework appeared above the trees. Magnificent. All colours. Red, blue, purple, silver, gold … So beautiful! I could draw in the moment. The loud bangs when they explode high in the sky. It made me shudder inside. Like butterflies. Would they feel it too?
The girls have gone down to get themselves a drink. The boys are still sitting before us. Am I imagining things or did they get closer to each other? Would their hands be touching? Secretly, hidden for all eyes. Hidden for everybody but themselves? The thought reminded me of a song of Phill Colins: ‘Invisible touch’. I’ve not yet really listened to the song, so I don’t know the text, but the title fitted…
The second band is coming up. The two girls are back and the boys are sitting farther apart again. It’s kind of cute. No, forget the kinda. It is cute. I look aside and see my friend thinking just the same. At this point, we are so alike. I smile; she brought me in a yaoi mode. She made me read that one story about two very different boys who fall in love.
At that point the music really got me, and I wasn’t really paying attention to the two boys before me anymore. And when one of the singers asked the crowd to stand up, everybody did. As one man we raised. It was unbelievable. Beautiful.
Standing there, dancing, I forgot all about the fresh air. I am rather used to walk around in a T-shirt when everybody else is wearing a sweater. But I had seen the reaction of different people, and to normal standards, it was rather cold. But than again, who cared? The music was good, the sphere was perfect. Who cares about the temperature?
I saw him leaning closer to the brown haired boy again. It was a slow, soft song. Seeing I was standing right behind them, I could hear him for the first time. He had a calming voice.
“Will I see you tonight? Will you come…?”
A nod is his answer before a rich voice confirms the movement.
“… Yes … Yours or mine…?”
The mischievous smile on the raven-haired boy’s face said more than words ever could.
“Mine…”
It was a bare whisper. Not even a whisper…
They hugged. Not like friends, but like something more. Does that even exist? Well, for me it does…
He passed on to the two girls. Giving both of them a quick hug and a small kiss on the cheek. That’s all.
Before he could leave however, one of the girls held him back.
“Won’t you feel alone tonight? You’re parents are in France… Aren’t you afraid for burglars?”
With other words: ‘I can always pass by. It won’t be a problem, I want to be with you. I love you… Can I pass by…?’
I rolled my eyes at her behaviour and was quite curious how the boy would react… Certainly he wouldn’t accept the unspoken meanings…
“No, I don’t think I’ll feel alone tonight.”
That was certainly a playful tone underneath the innocent words.
“And no, I’m not scared for burglars. After all, I have a very good watchdog…”
The grin he flashed the other boy said it all. And the fact that the other one blushed only confirmed it more.
Then he walked away. Smiling profoundly to the brown haired guy. Before disappearing into the crowd.
Before I surrendered myself to the music again, I could hear the girl’s surprised reaction.
“I didn’t know he has a dog…”
A soft laugh escaped my lips. I could see the boy blush even harder before he quickly turned his head away.
And I couldn’t help but think that this was beautiful. The secrecy about it was. Is.
