The Watcher
The Watcher stands on a seaside cliff;
Waiting … Watching,
As is his duty.
Waiting for the mermaids to return.
Day in and day out,
He walks to that cliff,
And he listens to the sounds of the ocean;
He listens for the mermaids’ song.
Years pass him by,
And he grows older.
He teaches his daughter the ways of The Watcher,
He teaches her the legends and the myths.
One day the mermaids will return,
And The Watcher will be there to greet them.
One day they will come back,
And The Watcher will be waiting.
