Smiling so your face could crack
Laughing brightly, waving back.
People passing having fun
A sudden need to scream and run.
Silently begging to be seen
None of the tears have ever been
More than a passing sheen of emotion
Covered up quickly by habitual devotion.

The plaster mask is
chipping
You can live without
restraint
Above this blinding new
world
Accepting no complaint

Whisperingly mentioned to those who pass
The question you never dare to ask.
When I need you will you be there?
Or will you even stop to care?
Pain inside's growing pound by pound
Not ever knowing how tightly you're wound.
Away from the ground you struggle to stand
Never glancing 'round to see helping hands.

The plaster mask is
chipping
You can live without
restraint
Above this blinding new
world
Accepting no complaint

The pressure is building the laughter has gone
The blacklight of life has ceased to shine on.
Frantically searching for those who stand near
Always we're waiting, from you to hear.
Helplessly watching with pain of our own
Wishing in vain that we had known.
Your pain had grown too much to bear
And that you'd chosen not to share.

If we had only known what you were going through
We could have made extra sure you knew,
That we were always there for you.

To cry with, to laugh with, to yell with, to fly with.
To talk with, to dance with, to share with to walk with.

The things you felt the need to hide
To bury way down deep inside
Would have been safe forever in our eyes.

The plaster mask is
chipping
You can live without
restraint
Above this blinding new
world
Accepting no complaint
