Yay! My first story. Well, I would actually draw this like a manga, but even my stick people look disfigured. There for I'll stick to drawing with words. Also I want to thank my friend, who helped me find names and stuff. I would really appreciate constructive criticism. (aka review please)
Claimer: (I've wanted to claim something for so long and now I can) This story and all it's characters, titles, and plot holes are mine. evil laugh… what?
Author Note: Dreams will always be in italics. For those that don't know Ozisan means uncle(or at least that's what my Japanese dictionary said). I've added who's point of view it is, because my friends were telling me it can get confusing. Also I've added a bit more to this chapter(just a few sentences to explain/describe stuff better).
PSYCHIC AVENUE
Chapter One: Fate Steps In
I'm in a garden. Plants of all kinds surround me; roses, sunflowers, camellias, rosemary, and buttercups. There are some trees too pine, forever green, and strangely a weeping willow. I didn't think willows grow here, but I'm no tree expert. The warm sun rays are giving this place an unearthly glow. It comforts me.
I find myself walking down a path towards a large house. There's something about that place drawing me to it. I walk up on to the porch and I'm about to slide the door open, when I feel the need to take my shoes off. I slip them off, then reach for the door. Yet I suddenly hesitate, taking a deep breath I force my hand to the door and-
A loud shriek penetrates my cocoon of covers and I hit the alarm clock to make it shut up.
"That dream again", I mutter to myself as I reluctantly drag myself out of bed to get ready for my first day at a new school.
"Maybe it's a good omen", I attempted a smile, "O by the way, how do I get to Mrs. Walkers classroom?"
"When you leave the office go right until you get to the end of the hallway then turn left. Go to the left again, then right. It'll be number 128."
"Thanks", I said politely before heading on my way.
Five Minutes Later:
"I'm lost!", I declared to the empty hall. I slumped against the wall to think and sulk, because I'm talented enough to do both at the same time.
Well, I was going to but I noticed a boy about my age walking toward me. He looked to be of Asian decent. His hair was blue black with that 'I just got out of bed' style. He was fairly tall. Also his shirt tale wasn't tucked in. He gave off the 'I really don't care, because I'm a tough guy' vibes; which meant he was probably a softy at heart. As the boy closer I could see a mischievous glint in his dark brown eyes.
Finally someone I can ask directions, I smiled in relief.
(POV Rei)
I was going through my normal routine; skip class, avoid authority figure, ect. When I saw a girl looking rather confused, I guessed she was new.
She looked around my age. She wasn't wearing a school uniform, yeah she's new. Instead she wore blue jeans and a red t-shirt. Her light brown hair went to her mid-back. She was average height, she would come up to about my shoulders. Her skin was slightly tanned, she must spend most of her time outside, and she had a nice figure. When she turned her head to look at me, her eyes jumped at me. They were a deep yet bright green.
There's something odd about her, I thought but quickly brushed the thought aside.
"Are you lost or just happy to see me?" I flashed her in a smile in a suave manner.
(POV Lucy)
He flashed me a smile that I guessed he thought was in a suave manner… Wait did he just hit on me? I automatically punched him in the shoulder, having years of practice in beating boys up.
Confusion and then pain raced across his face, "Ow! You hit me! And it actually hurt!"
Just for that comment I hit him again.
"Fine, if you don't want help I'm leaving!"
"No wait! I need to get to class and I have no idea where I'm at", I said somewhere in between a demand and a plea.
"Fine", he replied slightly frustrated, "I'm Rei Kurosawa, just so you know."
"I'm Lucy Brennan"
"So Lucy, what class do you have?" Rei teased, his mood completely changed.
(POV Lucy… still)
A few minutes later I finally got to class, Rei escaped before the teacher could see him. The teacher, Mrs. Walker, pointed me to an empty desk in the back after I gave her a quick explanation. She continued with class as I made my way back there. I could feel the curious stares from the other students, being new was awkward. However I kept an impassive face.
After I sat down, my eyes wondered to my new classmates, but the boy sitting beside me kept my attention. He looked just like Rei. Well, not just like him. They were basically the same, but this guy's hair was combed and shirt tucked in. Plus he was neatly taking notes, instead of skipping class. I got the opinion that he was OCD.
He must have felt my stare, because her turned his head and gave me an annoyed 'what do you what' look.
"You changed your attitude and clothes very quickly", I whispered jokingly. His annoyed look turned into an amused one, and he also gained a mischievous glint in his eyes.
"So you meet my evil twin."
"I guess so. He helped me get to class."
"Without hitting on you?"
"He did, but then I punched him. Twice."
"You just gave me blackmail", he quietly laughed, "Thanks."
"No problem", I smirked before actually paying attention to the lesson.
The rest of the day went fairly smoothly. My schedule was very similar to Rai's, the 'good' twin, so I followed him around. The two classes that I didn't have with him, he got someone else to show me where to go. However during lunch he disappeared, so I ate with a girl named Katherine, who showed me the way to Algebra, and her small group of friends. I didn't see Rei again.
At 3:30 it was finally time to leave! My dad had dropped me off that morning, but I had to get back home on my own. Also the school didn't have its own bus system (mumbles something about cheap private schools), so I'd have to take the city's. No Problem.
Twenty Minutes Later:
"I'm lost! Again!" I muttered frustrated at myself. Some how I had ended up halfway, I think, across town from my new and small apartment. At least I was lost in a nice part of town. I leaned against a wall that separated a subdivision from the rest of the world to think and sulk, again.
I decided that I'd find a store, call my dad, then wait there for him. And I was just about to do that when the wall I was leaning on just disappeared. I fell backwards with a squeak. I landed on what I realized was the other side of the wall, and my butt. Did I just… that's not possible… is it?, I wondered.
I got off my now sore butt and looked at my surroundings. I was in a garden, one that would be beautiful during the spring, too bad it was early November. There was this lovely weeping willow not to far from me. The place seemed vaguely familiar, but I couldn't think of why.
"Hello there", a kind voice said from behind me.
I turned around and I knew my face was red from embarrassment, "I'm really sorry. I didn't-"
"It's okay", the man cut off, "It's not your fault. That wall needs to be fixed." He said the last part more to himself.
"Ozisan!" A familiar voice called. We both turned to see who was calling him, and when I saw who my face got even redder. It was Rei and Rai.
Now that I looked at the man, their resemblance was clear. The man Rei had called had the same hair and eyes; however his skin was darker and shoulders wider, plus he looked to be in his late twenties not fifteen.
(POV Rai)
We had just got home and put our books away, when Miyoko called us to the garden. When we got there, we saw our uncle talking to a young woman.
"Ozisan!" my brother called out. Our uncle and the girl turned to see us. The girl looked at us, then to our uncle. I noticed her emerald eyes.
"Lucy?" I asked.
"Um, hi", she seemed very embarrassed.
"So you know her?" Ozisan asked pointlessly.
"She's the new girls at school." She nodded her head.
"So Luc, you either can't stay away from me or you're lost again", Rei teased. I hit him on the back of his head.
"Ow!" He glared. Lucy tried not to laugh. Ozisan did laugh.
"I'm actually lost again", she muttered. Rei sweat dropped.
"You have a bad sense of direction."
"Then you two should help the poor girl home", Ozisan suggested.
"It's okay", Lucy insisted, "I'd hate to impose. I'm sure they've got homework. I'll just-"
"It's not like I'll do my homework anyway", Rei stated, "I'll help you, again."
"Thanks", she looked like she wasn't sure if she should be suspicious or relieved. I couldn't blame her.
"Ok, let's go", he started off with Lucy dragging behind.
"You not going?" Ozisan raised an eyebrow. Well, I thought, Rei will probably say something stupid. Lucy will then hit him, but she'll still feel awkward…
"I'll go", I headed after them.
(POV Miyoko)
I watched as my nephews and their friend walked away.
"That girl, Lucy, there's something strange about her. Isn't there Miyoko?" an elder voice stated.
"Yeah, there is. She thought our garden looked familiar."
(POV Harold; Lucy's Dad)
"It figures that she's late", I said to the clock, "The only person that I've ever known with a worse sense of direction than her was her mother."
Just as I finished saying that I heard my daughter's voice outside, it sounded like she was thanking someone. The door opened and she came in with a bright smile on her face.
"Good day?" I asked though her smile told me enough.
"Yup. I got lost twice, but meet these twins and their uncle who felt pity for my bad sense of direction." I got up from the couch to ruffle her hair. "Hey! Don't do that! And you haven't worked a bit today have you, you lazy bum!" she said in false anger.
"I'm having writers block."
"Sure. Anyway I have to study. I had no clue what they were talking about in chemistry." She headed for her room.
"Good luck with that. I'll go ahead and start dinner", I called after her.
