Author’s note: Hi, this is Mylinda Antoinette. My World is a story I created one day for an assignment for my Creative Writing class, along with several others. My hope is to eventually write seven of the stories on the list, and this will be the first. My friend Gabrielle has volunteered as the story’s co-author, and will periodically provide input for the storyline. Thank you for reading our story. Here is the first chapter, and I hope you will enjoy it.

Co-author’s note: Hi, I’m Gabrielle Addison, and I’m going to help my friend, Mylinda Antoinette, co-author her story, My World. My hope is for this story to eventually reach at least fifteen chapters, preferably twenty, and to get at least 50 reviews. I hope you enjoy our story!

Chapter 1: The Accident

“I am so glad to be leaving this place for good,” thought 18-year-old Nichole Williams as she drove away from her high school on the last day of school. She had gone through her high school graduation earlier that week and was now preparing to start college in the fall. High school held too many bad memories for her. Her parents, Amber and James, were teachers at the school and they had embarrassed her more than once in front of her classmates. Her younger twin sisters, Cortlynn and Maddox, also known as Maddie, were lucky. By the time they got there, their parents had learned what was acceptable to do and unacceptable in front of your child’s friends. Her two brothers also were lucky, even though one, her brother Brendon, was older. He had gone to a school for the gifted instead of the high school where their parents worked. Her younger brother, Michael, was not yet old enough to be in high school. He was a seventh-grader. Her youngest sister, Faith, was only in second grade.

Her family had moved to the area fifteen years ago, just after the twins were born. Brendon was five at the time, and Nichole had just turned three. Three years later, Michael was born, and five years after that, they were surprised with Faith. Three years later, they had moved to a larger house nearby, just in time for Nichole to start at Addison High School. Her parents started teaching there that year, when Faith started preschool. They had been teaching there since then.

The worst part of going to the same school at which your parents teach was being in their class. Her parents almost never gave her high scores on her work for fear of being accused of being biased because she was their daughter. That was hard. She had to work harder in those classes than in any others, because her parents graded hard on her papers. After she filed a complaint, the principal had had a word with her parents, and by the time her sisters came around, they were much more liberal.

The light turned green and she waited a moment, looking both directions before continuing. Her cell phone rang and she pushed the button on her phone to answer it. “Hello?”

“Hey, Nic, it’s your mom!”

“Hi, Mom, what do you need?”

“Could you stop by the store and pick up some milk? I also need you to pick up a chicken and some potatoes and stuffing for dinner. I’ll pay you back when you get home.”

“All right.”

“Thanks, baby! I’ll see you when I get home!”

“Okay, Mom. Bye!”

“Bye!” Nichole hung up and turned in the direction of the Wal-Mart. When she got there she selected a fifteen pound chicken, four pounds of potatoes, and some Stove-Top brand stuffing mix. Then she picked up a gallon of two percent milk before heading to the self-checkout. She rang up the items: $45.08. She swiped her debit card through the card-reader and punched in her PIN. Then she took her receipt and the bags and went out to her car. After loading the bags in her trunk she got back in the car and started back toward her house. She had to stop at another light. When the light turned green, she started across the intersection. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a car speeding toward the intersection, about to hit her. It was too late for her to swerve, and the car smashed into hers.

The next few minutes passed incredibly slowly. Her car rolled over. Luckily, she had remembered to do up her seatbelt. She screamed as her car continued to tumble. Finally it stopped. She had cuts and bruises all over, and she was certain she had hit her head. At that moment, she began to grow dizzy. She began to be vaguely aware of policemen starting to arrive at the location. She heard someone shouting at her to stay awake, but she was just too tired, and she slipped under the black velvet curtain of unconsciousness.

A doctor came into the hospital waiting room hours later. Nichole’s family had arrived, along with her boyfriend, Travis Anderson. The doctor walked up to them. Amber and James stood together as the doctor approached.

“How is she?” James asked. The doctor shook his head.

“I’m afraid she’s not doing well.” He took a deep breath and sighed. “Your daughter was in a serious accident involving a drunk driver. She’s in a coma.”

Once again, thank you for reading, and don't forget to leave a review on your way out. The next chapter should be up in a couple of weeks. See you then!
