By the Sea
---
I come to the sea to be free
I've always belonged in this place
Stepping out of the house, such a view I see
One that instills a smile on my face.
By the sea, I've known it for so long
I've lived, loved and grown on these shores
Felt the sand between my toes as I've walked along
Discovered hope in a sunset just beyond my door.
On the beach, stars and secrets above my head
Made for just us three, my brothers and I
I've learned what it means to forget my feet of lead
To aspire and dream and put my hands towards the sky.
By the sea, I've learned so many things
With my age, I've finally begun to comprehend
A realization, acceptance of what time must bring
That with every beginning, there must be an end.
From sunrise and the morning bird's cries
To a dusk decorated with colors and stars
I've grown from a lonesome child and opened my eyes
With changing tides, both pleasure and battle scars.
Now the sea is no longer mine to hold
I can only see this place in faded pictures and dreams
The house on the beach where I've made memories of gold
Has become as tangible as stardust and sunbeams.
And I remember, I would come to the sea to be free
To the place where peace and joy, I'd find
But now the sea has been torn away from me
And this beloved place only exists in my mind.
