Brilliance in a Bottle
---
If I could find brilliance in a bottle
I'd drink it day and night 'til I breathed me last
Maybe then I'd be intelligent enough
To avoid things that have hurt me in the past.
Maybe then I could write a decent poem
Maybe then I'd complete my dreams
Finish a story, follow through with my goals
All of those silly, trivial things.
If only I could find brilliance in a bottle
Well, I'd sell it off to every fool
Because God knows a fool's got nothing to do
Except be played by a life so cruel.
For a fool's only desire is to not be a fool at all
To prove to the others that they're not naive
To show 'em all their wit, wisdom, and smarts
To not be a fool on the day that they leave.
A fool would dream and scheme of ways to get ahead
Oh, if only they could find some way!
To cast away their foolishness, consume a bit of brilliance
Somewhere, somehow, someday.
And if only I could find brilliance in a bottle
It would surely be a day to remember
Because if I could drink it down, breathe brilliance in me
Then maybe I wouldn't be a fool forever.
