My eyes sting.
The world swims
And I am falling
into darkness; little
by fragile little, the world
disintegrates and falls apart.
I ache from the fall,
I ache all over, yet
I can pick myself off the floor
and I run.
It’s knowledge, you see,
that gnawing, that ache:
The feeling of helplessness
in the face of such power
The world is a million times larger
than my dreams, and yet, and yet,
they all expect so much.
They expect miracles
where miracles cannot be spun;
goodness knows I cannot
fulfill; my eyes sting.
The world swims
and I am falling…
