Warning: This story is intended for mature readers. Among the things you are about to face are explicit nakedness, homosexuality, rape, sadism, profanity, mutilation, offensive language, alternative philosophies, emotional incest, and general bitchiness. And probably a great deal of boredom. Also, the writing style is liable to change from chapter to chapter, with over-the-top purple prose in one and cynical, fast-moving commentary in the other. There's a reason for this. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Long Summary: Silver is a flamboyant delusionary, a caste of wizard that has grown to fill the need of a society where all spiritual hope has been discarded. He feeds the fervent illusions of his clients by dancing for, and frequently, sleeping with them in exchange for money. Looking back on a life full of failure and wrong choices, all he wants to do is die. However, an unfortunate encounter with a demon-god soon steers his course toward a more pro-active approach to life: total world domination.
Lesser is his daughter, his only child whom he’d raised to be completely dependent on him for emotional support. Abandoned by her father twice in fifteen years, Lesser still manages to hang on to a delusion of love. And thus she goes on a single-minded quest to find him again, leaving no stone of the seven city-states unturned. Her plans become slightly complicated by the fact that there is a war for world domination going on. Not to mention by the eccentric and in no way loveable cast of characters who insist on coming with her to find her incorrigible father. At the end, Lesser faces a painful choice which could lead to disaster for herself and Silver either way.
Set in a backdrop of atheism, apathy, magic, and absolute relativism, Lesser is an exploration of family and love, and the meaning of good and evil in a world which believes itself to have progressed beyond both.
