You Won’t Have My Smile

I can’t be around you

Unless I’m in a good mood;

with the anger inside me,

I couldn’t help being rude.

Your ‘subtle’ insults,

your disapproving glare.

Every time you speak,

I wish you weren’t there.

I have to be in a state

where you cannot tear me down.

My walls must be up

for me to ignore your frown.

Your judgments are unfair

and they prick me like a pin.

I’m obligated to love you,

but you will never win.

There’s one too many scars

for me to care what you say.

You must enjoy hurting me,

but you will not have your way.

You won’t have my tears.

You won’t have my smile.

I want to unleash my anger

but I’ll just wait here for awhile.

You are my sister.

I’m obligated to love you,

but I do not like you

and I won’t smile to commend you.
