"The ocean is a funny place" she said...
Cause on the surface there's plankton
And on the bottom there's seaweed
The fate of the ocean relates to our own lives...

Since "both of them are filled with crap
But it's still considered living"
She said "life is full of useless garbage
And we call that living too..."

We spend our day with a checklist of tasks
Being performed by a room full of people
All of whom seem as though they are
About as exciting as a mollusk

I wish I could say, this was the only example
And that we're not gonna drown in this man-made ocean
But to call this the "tip of the ice burg"
Would only make us the Titanic

(Chorus 2x)
Miles and miles, of nothing but plankton and seaweed...

Nowadays, that's all our lives seem to be...

We swim on while wondering "Where are our pearls?"

Although its rather poignant, the location of our oysters, still remains a mystery...

"Life is like the sea" she said
"Life is an abyss..."
"Because the further down you get,
The darker your surroundings..."

"Could this be true," I thought "Or is she telling lies again?"
Well if that's how she feels
Then by now she should know
I can't keep my head above water

So finally I told her...
"Well if life is ocean
Like you claim that it is...
Then darling I'm drowning"

"Where is my life vest?
Cause darling I'm drowning
Lie to me and tell me,
You're just a bit surprised"

(Breakdown)

I still care about my pride
But I'm not trying to look cool now...
So won't you help me?
Cause darling I'm drowning
Oh darling I'm drowning
Don't leave me to the sharks
Cause darling I'm drowning
Oh darling I'm drowning

My lungs are, aching, burning..
So won't you call the Coast Guard?
Cause darling I'm drowning
Amidst these giant sea swells
(Among these tiny life forms...)

(Chorus 2x)
Miles and miles, of nothing but plankton and seaweed...
Nowadays, that's all our lives seem to be...
We swim on while wondering "Where are our pearls?"

Although its rather poignant, the location of our oysters, still remains a mystery...
