Vampire: Evil Is Sweet
Prologue
The street was empty and dark, devoid of any life. It was raining heavily, creating murky puddles in the gutter and on the pavement. Any normal human who passed through in their car or on foot would only be thinking about their dinner or their nice warm bed at home, not the fact that in about half an hour’s time, an event crucial to their existence was to take place here, outside the abandoned warehouse at the end of the road.
Minutes passed, and nothing changed in the way of the weather. A man appeared at the corner of the street. He paused by the road sign to check he was in the right place. Having assured himself, he strolled briskly down the dark street, and then stopped at the other end, outside the warehouse gates.
They were made of wrought iron, having once been padlocked shut, but over the years, various vandals had found a way to break off the padlocks the city council had placed there. The gates now stood unlocked, one on the ground and the other looking ready to fall off its hinges at any moment. The man entered, making his way cautiously round the fallen gate, so as not to make any loud noises, thus not disturbing the inhabitants of the dirty looking council houses.
When the strange man found the warehouse wall, he leant against it, every now and then checking his watch. To anyone who had seen him entering the street, it would’ve seemed he stuck to the shadows, never letting any part of his body be seen under the few flickering street lamps that lined the road, like sentinels to light away the darkest parts of human imagination.
The man looked up when he heard the distant roar of a motorbike, and smiled an anxious smile, knowing at least his friend had come on time. The motorbike also turned into the warehouse and the rider killed the engine when it reached the waiting man.
“I have them.” The rider took out a large bundle from his half zipped up coat and handed it to the other who looked inside, and then up at the man who had given it to him with a worried frown on his face.
“Julius, there are only two. I thought there were three. Where is the other?”
Julius closed his eyes and shook his head sadly.
“The scum have the other boy; I could not get to him in time. I am sorry Louis…” Julius choked, retched, coughed out blood, and then practically toppled off his motorbike. Louis caught him just before he hit the ground, and lowered him down safely. Julius looked up at him. “I…I tried Louis. I tried to reach him. They had them all in separate cages, in different parts of their lair. It was horrible. I guess they were separating them for the sole reason that if we broke in, they would be easier to defend and harder to reach…I tried to get the last one, his name is…” Julius clutched his motorbike and Louis’ body for support, coughing out yet more blood. Louis looked extremely worried.
“I know you are not going to last the night.” He said in a half sob. “Just tell me their names and what they did to you. Come on Julius! I am certain you can tell me this last thing.”
“His true name is Ungolad, the one they have still. Human name: Nicolas or Niki. He looks exactly like the blue eyed one you have here. His name is Prince, human name: Seth. The other brown eyed triplet is William. That is his true name. He does not have a human one. Louis…They shot me when I was trying to reach Ungolad. I am sorry…They placed a tracking device on me Louis. You must take my bike and go. They are coming…You must take the remaining two boys. We cannot risk losing them as well. Go…”
Louis kissed him hard on the mouth and wrapped his arms around him.
“I am not leaving you Ju. You must come with me. You can be healed at Base. Helena can heal you!” Louis whispered fiercely.
“No Louis, my love. You cannot desert your duty to protect mankind for me. You cannot. Have you any idea what Chief will say? Come back for my body in the morning. Oh, and take these.” Julius handed him a bunch of papers from his pocket. “They are important in some way. I do not know. I cannot read them. You will probably be able to decipher them. You are clever. Take them and GO!”
Louis was weeping. Julius felt awful, mentally and physically. The bullets the clan had shot at him were taking their toll, one buried in his liver and the other in his rib, just below his stomach. His mental pain was that he had never ever seen Louis cry. A full grown man, and the strongest in their relationship, he had always been the one to comfort Julius when he was feeling down, or finding their job just a little too hard.
“You must go…” he whispered, so quietly Louis had to stoop his head over his lover to hear him. “Please...for me.”
They shared one last kiss, and then Louis bundled the two triplets into his coat, got on the bike and kick-started the engine.
“Good bye Ju…” Louis said softly, looking down at Julius. Julius smiled sadly and blew him a kiss. Then Louis roared away, his body set on getting him and the two remaining triplets to Base, but his mind was numb with awful grief.
The babies slept on, unaware of the fact that the moment they had been born, they had been placed right in the middle of a secret struggle to keep the world as it was.
