Chapter 5
They arrived back at his house at a gallop. Sliding the horses to a stop, they dismounted quickly. During their ride back, soldiers had gone out to look for Kayton. His parents had arrived back sooner than he thought they would. Luckily, his clothes had dried out. He kissed Leslie one last time and sent her on her way.
“When will I see you again?” She cried in horror.
“I don’t know. Wait for me,” He said before she galloped off toward her town. Just as she got out of sight the soldiers rode onto his parents property and over to him. He was leading Razor into the barn when they halted him.
“Sire, the King wanted to know where you were. He’s furious that he cannot find you,” the one in the front said.
“I just took Razor for a ride to the pond while he was out. Go! Tell him,” Kayton said quickly. The elf nodded and rode off. He untacked Razor and stuck him in his stall with a buckets worth of feed to munch on. After making sure all his horses had hay, feed, and water, he walked up the stone path to the back door of his house. He quietly opened the door and walked in. Shutting it without a sound, he snuck to his room.
He changed into his night-around-the-house clothes and sat at his desk that was now light by moonlight so he could see what he was doing. He took down notes from his day, reminders of the army, and several commands for the next few days. Then came his favorite part, he wrote a letter to Leslie.
Dear Leslie,
I know I could’ve told you when I saw you, but I coulnt handle the thought of seeing the look on your face. I’m going away to war in about two days time. I wish I could see you one last time, but I doubt I’ll get to. I’m leaving you my love to hold onto. I’ll write when I can but times may be few.
Love, Kayton
