If fate should be unkind to us, dear one,
And I should leave you behind tomorrow,
Know that your love was my only real sun
That could chase away rain clouds and sorrow.
Though Death might take me and call me his own,
I will search from High Heaven for your face.
I do not want to leave you here alone;
Only Death can take me from your embrace.
Let us live, love, this day and everyday
As though our time were uncertain and brief.
For it is, love, so do not let us say
That we spent our last day on earth in grief.
I pray to Thee, oh Lord Above,
To never take me from his love.
