Phantasm: Friendship Forged…

Softly, the firelight and warmth from the banked coals spread over the darkness, casting an ancient and gentle glow over the newly crafted armor and weaponry upon the walls. It is a comforting sight, rather than one that might frighten, because the dark didn’t seem so confining. Ordinarily I avoid darkness, preferring light by far. But…listening to the quiet summer night spilling in through the old carriage doors, opened wide to accept the cool of the swollen harvest moon hanging low in the sky.

This forge…this moment. It all seems so timeless, so utterly at peace. But I am no fool, ungrateful to the spirit of flame that I’ve been so lucky to work with all these years. So I turn from my contemplation of the familiar starry skies and smile towards the flickering orange light dancing across the fire-proofed walls, my fiery partner resting for the night.

“Forgive me for my wandering thoughts…it has been a busy week, no?” Kneeling, I could rest my arms and chin on the forge’s warm lip, the tiny sprite that had helped me for so long glimmering into existence for a few stolen moments. It seemed to smirk for a moment, but a sense of understanding seemed to emanate from it. It fluttered out cautiously from it’s coals, a faintly humanoid form consumed in flames. The face, changing as it was, bore a genuine smile as it lightly pecked my nose, leaping back to the coals with a sizzling laugh.

Hmm…not only ghosts, now? -chuckles- Elementals are always so much fun…

Laters,

KD
