Raj was running, he couldn't hear a sound. He sound smell blood in the air and the forest rushing past him. His paws hit the ground like thunder and only then did he realize he was a wolf. He was running for his life as fear struck him. But suddenly a bright white light burst from afar in front of him. He stopped and saw the outline of his mother. She was looking at him. Her eyes made his heart cry. But soon enough the light started to fade. Raj ran for her.
"No mother!!!" He screamed after her.
Suddenly Raj snapped opened his eyes. He was drenched in cold sweat and his hands were shaking. He was once again back in the dark grey room inside a mountain, with the fighters. Raj sat up and buried his head in his hands. There were more of these dreams to come and it made Raj question his stability around humans.
He slide off the bed and dazedly walked over to the pitcher of water. He knees gave off soft pops and his feet were cold. Raj could smell the dew forming outside. The sun would rise soon.
Raj poured out water, marveling at the silver flow of it. He dipped his hands in the cool but refreshing liquid and splashes his face in his reflection. Raj sighed. He wiped his hands on his pants and started off towards the balcony. He stuck out his hands t pull away the curtain; he could barely feel the butter cream fabric. He slipped out of the cement room and was shock at the balcony he was on. It was small but at least there was a bench like gate around the edge of it. The balcony jutted out of the mountain side and faced the sun rise perfectly. For so long in prison he craved for the moon. He craved for the sun. He dreamed of running once more through the deceiving forests. And now it all seemed possible.
Raj leaned on the balconies edge, but quickly shot backwards. He didn't realize how high up he really was. Raj gulped and deciding to just sit down. He leaned backwards on his arms and stared at the sunrise as though it was dream. The colors swirled and the ball of heat rose.
His tail flickered and he heard the sound of feet from behind him. But he could smell her scent. It was Elie.
"Don't you knock?" Raj said lazily as he closed his eyes.
"Well good morning to you too" she suddenly did a cart wheel and landed on the cement guardrail.
Raj shifted in his position as he eyed her. He didn't care if she was a cat, even if she did land on her feet, a fall like that would kill her.
"Come down form there before you fall."
"Do I make you feel uneasy?" she smiled and arched her back. She was acting like a child as she walked the rim of stone.
Raj stood up and started back inside. He had seen enough of the sun rise and enough of the trapeze artist.
"Oh come on your no fun." Elie fallowed him behind the curtain., "What wrong?"
Raj stopped and clenched his fists, "Whats wrong?! What do you think is wrong?! I don't want any of this! I'm an orphan not a leader! I'm a wolf not a king!"
Enraged Raj slammed his hand to the wall and the door appeared. He opened it with haste and slammed it.
Anger rose and feel like a thermometer. He walked down the hallway he had come down before. The cool air filed up the passage way, and cooled off his temper for now. He thought back to his dream. What was it suppose to mean? To become a wolf? To find his mother…could she still be alive? Raj brushed it away. No she was dead. Everyone was dead.
Raj fallowed his feet and ended back at the wear house, or the hospital for these people. Raj didn't really know were to go now. He walked to one of the walls a rested his back against it. He surveyed the mass of sick injured people. Fighters? What use was it? These people, they were nothing compared to the army brewing under the powerful and stupid rulers.
"We need you…" Raj swung to his right and came face to face with Elie.
"You don't need me, you need a leader."
"No…" Elie looked down, "we need hope."
Raj didn't know what to say. He did want revenge but not for the people. He wanted his own sweet revenge.
Raj sighed.
"These people, she motioned to the room. There not the kind of warriors you might be thinking of…yet." He looked up at her glowing face. "We can do it. And even if we cant, we tried. And that's better than nothing."
Raj always let his moth speak before his mind, "Ok", he looked down. "Ok…I'll stay."
For the next few months Raj did what ever he could. He tried his best to "give hope to the people". He didn't know what else to do. He wasn't a war leader at all.
But he tried. He found a library in the catacombs of the mountain. He learned from the past. He learned of great armies centuries ago who won or lost battles. He spread the knowledge and before long, people were getting ideas. Maybe this was all he was supposed to do. Maybe he was to bring ideas, and the people could take it from there.
But Raj wasn't the only one helping the fighters form. Out in the world a vast number of people gathered. People from everywhere started to see what fighters saw years ago. Soon whispers traveled on the wind of towns with fighters just waiting on the first action. And not only that, but in the darkness people crept around leaving messages on walls. No one cared who they were but the government. But they would spray paint the symbols of the fighters everywhere.
Than one sunny day Raj led some people in training. He rarely did this but today seemed, different. They practice with a bows and arrows. Although some considered them primitive, Raj had other plans in mind.
After training, Raj was tired of the people always staring at him so he decide to go for walk; Outside of the safety of the mountain and back in the streets.
He traveled down the busy streets studying the action of the people just trying to make it out alive. Soldiers were in every pub and on every street corner. They would stop helpless women or harass anyone who even looked at them. The army was getting restless with power.
If ever a fight broke out in these cruel streets, everyone would ignore it. A person was helpless again one of the well trained soldiers. But maybe, Raj thought, maybe the people, together weren't so helpless.
Raj sighed.
As Raj strolled down the street he recalled his dreams that would often wake him up in the middle of the night. In everyone one of his dreams, he was a wolf and he could smell blood. He dreamed of revenge. But…the thought of revenge meant so much more work with the people.
Raj looked up at the sky. The clouds were puffed up like whiffs of smoke, but heavy with rain. Raj could clearly see a cloud in the shape of a dragon. But everyone knew dragons died out years ago.
"Hey don't you walk away from me!" Raj turned to see soldiers confronting a young boy on the other side of the street.
Raj's tail bristle and he started to growl.
The boy had black hair with blue streaks in it. He must have been 18. Raj sniffed at the cool air. He smelled wolf, but he couldn't tell if it was his scent or the boys.
"Now what have we got here." One of the soldiers had a terrible grin on his face.
The boy backed up but realized he was surrounded. He gave a soft but deep growl.
"I knew it!" a different solider gripped a gun tighter.
Suddenly with great force, they started in on him. They threw punches and beat him unmercifully. The boy fell to the ground where kicks were also being added to the pain.
Raj couldn't just stand by and let this happen.
Raj ran out into the empty street and before he could think, he jumped into the fight.
His fangs set into one of the mans' necks. Blood filled Raj's mouth and the dead body fell like stone to the ground.
"What the fuck! Bastard!"
The soldiers quickly turned to bring hell to Raj. But the wolf was too fast and their weapons were too slow and armor too thin.
One by one they fell to the ground like rain drops of red.
Raj then tried to calm himself. He tried to re-gain control, but it was no use. The blood tasted so good. His brain felt like it was on fire and his tail bristled. His eyes intensified and his fangs thirsted for more blood.
He could only see blurs and he felt like madness was taking over his body.
Then from no where someone rushed at him. He slashed at the wild blur but it grabbed him around the waist.
He ended up behind a wall and next to him was Elie, the boy and a few other fighters he had just trained.
Raj couldn't breathe; it felt like he was pushed back into the back of his brain while someone insane took over his body. His fangs got longer and his claws got sharper. He could hear Elie talking but he couldn't grasp her words. Raj shut his burning eyes and her words started to sink in.
"Raj! Snap out of it! Fight it!"
Elie.." Raj growl. Every word was like a battle in his mind. "Get out of here" he clenched his fangs.
I'm in control, I'm in control. The words penetrated his thoughts of blood.
Suddenly the feeling of helplessness started top fade. The burning in his brain started to dissipate and his claw and fang started to go back to how they were.
"I'm not leaving you and neither are the fighters." She motioned towards the other people. Raj could see the boy he'd saved trembling against the wall, and the words "thank you" kept forming on his lips.
Suddenly Raj was rushed back into reality. He had complete control again. What had happened? Did his body tap in to some sort of magic? Was he to become a wolf, right there and then?
He looked around. All of them were crouched against the wall.
"Glad to have you back." Elie said.
Another man spoke, "We have to get back to the nest." Elie silently peered around the wall and shot back.
"The soldiers are multiplying" she said in a whisper.
Elie looked back again, "Oh no." her face went white as she turned back to them.
"What now?" a man with gray hair in a dark brown trench coat spoke.
"He's here." Elie gulped. "The captains back."
With a hand to his pounding head, Raj spoke, "Who?"
Elie turned to him, "While other joined this fight for money, the captain we speak of joined this battle of blood just for the pleasure of killing. Man, woman, child, doesn't matter to him, as long as it bleeds. He destroyed all the original fighters…" she paused. "…and their families."
Raj scooted forwards and mumble, "lets see this captain." He peered over the wall.
Raj's eyes got wide. He saw someone he did not expect. He saw a man with brown hair and eleven ears. Just as young as the day of his families death.
Raj almost fell backwards. But instead his mind sent his memories far back. His village slaughtered, men, women, and children. When everything he loved was destroyed.
That man, that elf was the leader. That thing was the one who killed, who gave the orders, and who was a madman.
Raj found himself holding on the shred of sanity holding him to the spot he now sat.
Elie knew something was wrong, "what is it?"
"He….destroyed my village….slaughtered my life." Raj was about to stand up when Elie grabbed on to his arm.
She stared at him, "Don't."
"You can't just expect me to stay here when the man who destroyed my life, is standing but not twelve feet away!"
"Yes, you must!" she sighed, "Your our last hope."
Anger filled Raj. Revenge for the people or revenge for himself. But Raj didn't have a choice. Pain seared back through his spine and mind. His brain was set on fire and his eyeballs burned. His fangs and claws thirsted for more blood. His hair bristled and he gave a shrieking howl.
The sound of soldiers could be herd getting closer to there hide out. But not for long.
Raj suddenly ran from behind the wall slashing at the men. Elie didn't know what to do. They had only one choice. They couldn't join, they knew they couldn't. They'd have to get more people. They'd have to get backups. But by that time, they'd already have killed Raj. Elie shivered. She knew they had to leave before they were found too. They had to leave, Now!
Raj couldn't stop. The blood, was everywhere. The mean fought like children. Never had been faced with a wild animal of such ferocity. He wasn't a full wolf but it was taking place. Suddenly his burning eyes fixed on the captain. He was smirking.
Raj growled like thunder and rushed forward. But before Raj could do anything he felt the slice of metal in his side. He fell to the ground but quickly got up. His own blood was sneaking out of a wound on his side. The elf held a bloody sword to his side, and stared to chuckle insanely. Raj rushed at him again this time, his claws missed by an inch, and the captain sword missed by a foot.
But suddenly he felt pain sizzle his body. His muscles stopped and his body fell to the ground. Back to being half and half his body lay there, motionless. And stuck to him were the wires of six stun guns.
The captain simply walked back to the rest of the living soldiers. One went to Raj and gave his three time the normal dosage of tranquilizer.
"Bring him to the dungeons" the captain said.
Raj woke up with pain twitching all his muscles. He tried to move his hand to his head but it couldn't. His arms and body were tide to a pole. And around his neck was a black collar tightly tied up to rope which was again tied around the solid pole. He was tied up tight and he felt someone watching him. He looked around to see he was in a concreted building and there was a small but pointless window.
Suddenly he smelled someone in the shadows.
He didn't care who it was, both him and the wolf merge as one, Raj was pissed. He struggled against the restraints but it was no use.
Then from the darkness came a snickering. Out of the corner walked the captain. He was wearing black trench coat and his hands were placed behind his back.
Raj growled and snapped at him.
The captain slithered his way up to Raj. Raj pulled but it didn't matter, he wasn't going anywhere.
"Silly little dog…" Raj growled, but the elf kept going, "Did you really think you could kill me?" he laughed, he walked back a forth, taunting Raj, "Ah yes I remember you. The one that got away from that village, with that whore of a wolf taking you to freedom. I'll tell you a secret." The man got so close to Raj, that he could smell his sweat and Raj wanted to snap his neck right there, but the words that slithered out of his mouth where intoxicating, "I killed that whore, who pleaded for her life like the dog she was." Raj lunged forwards. He could hear the rope around the collar start to snapped and his muscles almost busted through the straps. He snarled and snapped at the captains face. The elf only had to step back a foot to be out of reach. But Raj could tell he made an impact on the restraints. He struggled like a wounded animal. How dare he insult his mother. How dare he destroy everything. How dare he…
For once the wolf agreed to help the human body he was in. He fought like he was on fire. The captain in surprise and worry retreated back through the shadows to a door. Raj heard the door close and his eyes glinted in the darkness. He tried even harder to break free, but the straps were too tight.
Raj released his body and he stood there. He shouldn't waste energy, but damn it. He had to get out of there.
He closed his yes, and was faced with the image of a wolf. It was growling and lunged at his thoughts.
Raj snapped open his eyes.
"Ok" he whispered. "Ok…." If he couldn't do it, and both the wolf and him couldn't break free, maybe, the wolf could get out.
Ok he said in his head, it was like he had split personalities, I'll let you have control, for now.
Suddenly the pain entered his body. His mind burned and his eyes became red. His fang snapped in the air, and his claws shredded the pole and the straps. Suddenly the wolf had done it. He lunged at the door and was still held back. Once more, he thought.
Again Raj lunged and heard all the straps snap. He ran at the door and mowed it down like it was paper. Raj was seeing the wolf run out of there. He was in empty corridors of a prison of some sort. He ran like he was insane. He ran in fear and hatred. The corridors smelled of blood, and made Raj's mouth water.
Suddenly he saw the main door. He felt his muscle start to give way. He'd have to kill the captain another time. He had to leave. He'd have his chance again.
But before breaking down the door, Raj howled to the heavens sending everyone chills up there spines. Letting everyone know he was gone, letting everyone know he was strong and he'd be back.
