Wind whipped her hair around her face, snatching her lip gloss. The wind flew through the window and onto her face. Her arm hung out the window and into the flying wind that enclosed around the speeding car. She could smell the smoke of her mother’s cigarette on the other side of the car. She could feel it scratching at her throat, making her cough slightly. She saw many other drivers with their arms hanging carelessly out the window as they sped by. She was not excited, as many girls thought her to be, about this particular event. Suddenly, there was a large wet, slap against her hand. She pulled her hand in and wiped the water off of her. She pressed the button to roll up the windows as the rain started harder. Her mother left the window open only a crack so that she could still breathe because of the smoke. Her mother lit up another cigarette and she rolled her eyes.
Heavy drops rolled themselves down her window as she sat, staring out at the other people passing by without worry or care. Perfect. She thought, as more droplets pounded the glass.
