We Don’t

we don’t
match up like a
load of dark laundry,
mixed in with the
light—
and colors of the
spectrum just like
black vs.
white
& we’re caught in
everything in-between,
they ask us and
we don’t.

we stain
each other leaving
footprints in
heartbeats, that no
amount of time will ever
wash away
(completely)
black mark on white
dark scar on light
we stain.

we clash
memory on memory
complain & disattain
reserve our right
to fight the fight
stand up if you believe in
change (of power &
will—
will power)
can’t answer the questions I
shout at you back,
for
we clash.

& so we don’t
remember humanity is
flawless (it’s
people that make the
problems)
and neither knows how
to accept
defeat
retreat
& reprimand
so change your clothes
&strike(a pose)
oh, what a scene we
make—
but you said,
we’re like two puzzle pieces,
we don’t seem like much
but take us apart
and we ain’t worth shit.”
so let’s put us back
together &
when the world asks
if we know,
we’ll smile &
laugh &
lie—
we don’t.
