I opened my eyes, and blinked a few times, trying to get some of my sleepiness to go away. Now, if I could just remember why I woke up at two in the morning...

Taptaptap

Oh, yeah. Something was tapping at my window. I closed my eyes, childishly thinking that if I couldn't see it, it couldn't see me and would go away. It didn't make any sense that someone was at my window. My room was on the second floor of my family's house, without any trees nearby. The siding on our house couldn't support anyone enough for them to climb it, let alone stay still for any length of time. It was almost impossible.

Taptaptap

...Maybe I should run and get my parents. Oh wait. They aren't here. They're out on another business trip.

Call the police? I can't remember where I left the phone...

Slowly, I opened my eyes, and turned to face the window. I was thankful I had curtains instead of blinds; with the moonlight, I would be able to see out, but whoever was at my window wouldn't be able to see in.

Taptaptap

I paused turning around, closing my eyes again at the sound. When it was gone again, I gathered my courage and turned the rest of the way.

There outside my window was...

...Nothing.

"Hi," a feminine voice said from the behind the end of my bed. I screamed, and turned to see who it was. "I'm Samantha."

I screamed again. How did she get in here?! I was sure I'd locked the door, not only to get in the house but to my room, and I knew the window was closed.

"Shh.." Samantha was saying. "I'm terribly sorry, I didn't mean to frighten you..."

"Frighten me?!" I nearly screeched. "Oh, no, people randomly appearing in my bedroom wouldn't frighten me at all!"

"Oh...Yeah. Sorry about that. I'd asumed you'd be expecting me."

"Expecting you?! Why the hell would I be expecting you? Who the hell are you? What do you want here?!" I was still yelling, but I didn't care. I hoped someone would hear and call the police. But a part of me hoped that didn't happen...

"I'm your angel, Rose. A guardian, a guide, a friend." She said all this so calmly, it was almost eerie. "I'd thought your parents would have informed you that I would be coming soon. Everyone in your family has had an angel, at some point. I'm here to protect you, until you can protect yourself."

"What they hell are you talking about?!" At least I'd calmed down a little. I wasn't yelling, just...talking loudly.

"Hmm...How could they not tell you?" It sounded more like she was talking to herself, so I didn't bother saying anything. "How to say it...How to say it." She paused, and then started again. "A few generations ago, one of your relatives discovered another world. Without thinking about the damage it would cause, he went into the world. The people on that planet had never seen beings such as him before. They were interested in where he came from...But he refused to tell them. They got angry, and put a curse on your family. But, not being completely evil and cursing those who are innocent, they give every member a chance. If thought to be a good person at the time of being judged, the curse passes over that person. If not...well, I won't go into that."

What? "O...kay. What does that have to do with angels and learning to protect myself?"

"I am to teach you to defend against this curse, for the others in your family will still have it. Getting an angel to help you is part of giving you a chance. Without me, you would be in much danger because of this curse. You do not have it, you're judgement has already been done."

"...Does this mean I can go back to sleep now?" I asked.

"Yeah, sure."

A/N:: I know. This is really weird, and the ending is just...strange. Yeah. But I was bored. Heh.
