Chapter one
The Beginning
“Do you know how much I love you Rhianna?”
“You don’t love me one bit.” I spat out angrily as his strong arms held me tight against his firm chest.
“Good. I was beginning to assume you thought I held a place for you in my heart because I have yet to kill you. But the reason for that is, you are still so beautiful, and until I find a younger, more beautiful woman to accompany me to social events among the immortals and be my slave, you will suffice.”
He had reminded me of that eleven times in total that week. Perhaps it was almost time for him to do away with me.
My heart sunk as he kissed me roughly on the mouth and turned out the lights with a snap of his fingers.
“Now go to bed love. Tomorrow my father is coming for the Masquerade Ball and you must be extremely well presented. He has high expectations and would perish at the thought of me showing up with anyone unworthy of me. And sorry about the wounds, I’ll heal them in the morning.”
Demetri pressed a strong hand forcefully on the small of my back indicating where the deep cuts remained. It was my birthday, I had turned eighteen, there for I had received eighteen lashes. Lucky me. I winced as the gashes began to sting and shut my eyes tight in fear that I might cry again. Demetri hated when I cried, it made him angry, and causing Demetri anger usually resulted in some sort of severe punishment.
I’d been living with my master since I was almost sixteen years of age. He rescued me from the home of my drug addicted mother and a sexually abusive step father. It felt as though I’d gone from one hell to the next. Anyway, in a morbid attempt to kill myself one night, I had slit my wrists and fell asleep hoping to die peacefully.
The next morning I awoke in a beautiful crimson room. I assumed it was hell. That is until a handsome Demetri walked into the room and explained how he had rescued me. He had healed the slits in my wrists and brought me to his mansion. He told me how he was an ‘undead angel’ also known to humans as a vampire, and needed a beautiful young lady to play his girlfriend when guests came over. She’d also be his slave until she lost her youthful beauty, then he would drain her of life. I asked why he chose me. He said simply because I was one of the most impressive mortals he’d seen, and because he knew no one cared enough to wonder where I’d gone.
That was a long time ago though; a little more than two years. I had always served him well and remained loyal no matter the situation. But even so, I was then desperate to be free again.
That was close to impossible though. I was already eighteen, aged, used, and worn out. His often demands and beatings had taken a toll on me. There for, pretty soon I was sure I’d be drained of my life. I was petrified and knew I had to find a way out soon or that would be my destiny.
The annual masquerade ball was the next night. It was my chance to get help, and perhaps even be rescued from this gruesome place I’d been held captive in for so long.

Beautiful
I thought as I stared at myself happily in the full length mirror across from my bed. I was wearing a sheer black dress that flowed to only a foot above my knee. Sure it was short but it wouldn’t even compare to how skimpy the gorgeous witches and vampires that were coming would dress. I pulled my hair up and placed glitter on specific parts of my body to add a finishing touch. With not but one hair out of place, my ebony locks flowed in small downward spirals. I was ready.
I opened my door to reveal Demetri about to knock for me.
“You look surprisingly whorish tonight mademoiselle. It’s a good look for you.” His lips brushed over the ivory skin on my neck, the scars of multiple bite marks he’d left me were still visible.
He placed his mask on. It left only two openings for emerald eyes. They could captivate and seduce anyone, dead or alive.
“Don’t I get a mask Demetri?” I asked casually. It would be a great asset if I chose to run tonight. Nobody would recognize me.
“No dear, that’s too risky. How can I find you if I cannot see your face?” I sighed. Oh well.
We walked slowly down the massive staircase, and I looked over all the people watching me. They were in awe at such a flawless couple; most of the perfection was on his side might I add.
