He sneered at me, the first time we met.

I don't know why, but it was cruel.

-

-

He laughed at me, the second time we met.

I don't know why, but I wanted to sob.

-

-

He jeered at me, the fifth time we met.

I don't know why, but his eyes held hate.

-

-

He mocked me, the thirteenth time we met.

I don't know why, but I didn't care.

-

-

He punched me, the twenty-ninth time we met.

I don't know why, but I didn't fight back.

-

-

He kissed me, the forty-third time we met.

I don't know why, but he said he hated me.

-

-

He hurt me, the sixty-seventh time we met.

I don't know why, but I hated him back.

-

-

He bled on me, the five-hundred-and-fifty-eighth time we met.

I don't know why, but I had a gun in my hands.

-

-

The next time we met, he didn't move,

And I can't quite remember why.
