If the truth needs to be told she was not a full-fledge demon. Of course she had her share of demonic powers, an more than once she summoned a lesser spirit to do her deeds, but she tried to avoid using magic. And she knew how to be pleasant and charming to get what she wanted, but she never bedded someone just for the utilities. She also enjoyed the suffering of the sinners, but she never tortured an innocent. And it can be denied that she despised humanity, but humanity has despised her first. In the end she had morals, even if they were rather Machiavellian. And she loved an angel.
She was not really sure how it started. A lost soul introduced them, and they soon became friends. It is not as surprising as it appears, she could be really kind when they where not trying to lynch her, and he was so good that he was able to give her a chance even if she was a demon. Soon they developed an easy friendship. He was able to see past her broken wings and little horns and understand that there was a rather sensible heart in a lost dark place of her soul. And she was able to see his pain, because although like her, he had been shunned for being different. People where always taking advantage of his kindness, and because he was an angel he could not see they dark intensions. So they stood side by side, understanding each others soul. And even though her demonic powers were week and she was too young to be really wise, she swore to protect his kind, innocent soul. She might be a demon, but she always protected her friends.
She was the first to realize that she was in love with him. She ordered her heart to stop those feelings so unbecoming of a demon. But her heart had dared to defy God and had no problem in defying its own master. And soon she found she loved him with a rather unholy intensity, which is not surprising she was demon. And her friends noticed the new light in her eyes, and told her that there was a reason why angels and demons could not be together, but she laughed at them and told them that she did not care about the rules made by ancient beings too engrossed in their power-games to enjoy life, but her friends shake their heads and looked at here with sad eyes.
But even though she didn't feared defying god, not trembled at the sight of the deepest levels of hell, she was not brave, and it took her a long time to gather her courage and confess to the young angel her feelings. Because her heart had been hurt many times by humans when she was a child, and that is the reason she was a demon; because demons are made, not born. But she might be cold-hearted, but that did not mean she was completely heartless like many of the older demons, so she gathered all her forces and decided to risk herself once more and admit her feelings to her beloved. As a matter of fact she only managed to mutter a few timid words about the fact that she tough of him as more than a friend, and she was incredibly surprised when he told her, almost as timidly as she had, that he had also feelings for her. And in this shy way, in a night preceded by the moon and her retinue of stars they found that they loved each other.
An with the certainty of love they parted their ways, and for a few days she felt completely happy, even if she was doing horrible tasks like cleaning the furnaces of hell. But days passed and her happiness started to diminish, as she had not received news of her beloved. Worried she tried to contact him, but he never gave signs of receiving her messages. She even ventured, carefully hooded so that she was not recognised, to the doors of heaven, where an angel told her he had been assigned some tasks and could not answer to her calls. And her heart started to cry, because distance can hurt so much. And soon she found herself yearning for him while she was studying the arcane texts of ancient lore and missing his company while she travelled in the night looking for sinner to bring to hell. And now, while her peers’ laughed observing the suffering of humans, she could only muster a depressed smiled.
And then, after what seemed to be an eternity, her beloved angel asked her if they could meet. And she rejoiced, and abandoning all her tasks she went with him. And when she saw him she ran and embraced him. But then she saw his eyes, and found in them an expression that she had never seen in his face, but that she could easily recognise. It was the same expression of fear that humans gave to her everyday. And she felt her heart tremble and asked "Why? Why?" and he could not give her an answer. And she looked into his eyes, into his soul, looking for the flame of love that she had seen in them not so long ago, but she could only see the fear that had drowned it. And she smiled.
No one in heaven or hell has ever seen her cry. Now she only smiles and laughs, and there is no one as merry as her in the whole world. Or at least, that is what they say.
