Envy

By Jenny Valentine

Laced with envy, I cry and weep
Letting the familiar emotion take hold once more
My eyes, blurred
And vision becomes obscured
Shedding this emotion with a tear, I let it fall
For as this moisture descends
My ill will is laid bare
Gleaming in the dark, my envious side is born
A jealous rage overcomes me
And so I ask myself
“Why must I be so disadvantaged…
With her looks tarnishing me
And feeding his avidity?”
The lone tear in which has now slid freely from me
Breaks apart in dispersion
Droplets of water scattering
Upon seeing my reflection in this spilled puddle
Reality sets in
For I was brought into this world
With the feeling that entraps me, burdens my existence
Envy
And Envy I must be

Author's Note: This a poem that's one of seven (...Seven Deadly Sins). Also, it goes along with a story I am writing.
