The Last Asher

Part 4: The Meeting

I woke up on the side of the highway, about 5 miles outside of Las Vegas in the middle of the freaking desert. I’m miles and miles away from downtown and I could already hear explosions and gunfire. It was going to take a while for things to calm down, but I think I knew they eventually would. They would never be the same though.

My body was sore and aching. I had cuts and bruises down my legs and a cut across my forehead that was bleeding. The area was quiet and there was absolutely no one around, or at least, that is what I thought. Only a couple hundred yards away was an Angel sent by God, weeping over the loss of two of his friends. Of course, I had no idea of this at the time. I just so happened to stumble across him while starting to make my way towards downtown Las Vegas, where I hoped to find my son in one piece with my wife.

When I first met Asher, he nearly killed me. “Who are you?! Are you one of them?” He screamed at me, and tackled me.

“One of who?” I screamed back, “My name is Eddy!” He held me down against the ground, my face is the dirt.

“Are you one of them?” He asked me again.

“Do you mean did I come back from Hell?” I asked him.

“Yes, that’s what I mean!” Asher screamed at me.

“Yes! Yes! I’m one of them! Just leave me alone, Ok, pal?”

“LIFT UP YOUR SHIRT!” Asher screamed, going absolutely ballistic. At that time I was absolutely horrified. I thought that I was about to get raped by a tall guy in a white jumpsuit in the middle of the desert. But I did do as I was told. I looked down at my stomach to see one of the most horrifying things that I have ever seen in my life. On my stomach, where my belly-button had once been was a large black scab that was spinning in a slow circle and making weird noises.

“AHHH! WHAT THE-!” I screamed, immediately trying to rip the thing off of my stomach. Only too soon was I to find out that everyone who had come back sported one of these dots on their stomach.

The white man who was strangling me while wearing a white jumpsuit then proceeded to pull out a huge needle gun thing and point it at my stomach. I kicked it away from him and pulled my shirt down. The Asher punched me in the face and ran for the needle gun. I quickly stood up and started running in the opposite direction, fearing for my life.

What was I supposed to do?! Let him run away? No, I couldn’t let that happen. Eddy was SUPPOSED to be my first catch and the beginning of my long quest to cleanse the planet. I immediately called down from Heaven the strength and power to apprehend Eddy. Engulfed in flame, and riding upon a flaming chariot, bow in one hand and spear in the other, I began my pursuit.

When I first saw that flaming chariot, my first reaction was to run faster. My second reaction was to use the seemingly random placed fire hydrant (in the middle of no where, and where it wasn’t needed) to my advantage. I had seen it done in video games before. Whenever there is a huge thing charging at you, you’re supposed to make it run into a wall or something. Well, I used that same theory with a fire hydrant. I had a few feet behind it, and SMASH!

I collided dead on with a fire hydrant. The water doused down my flaming chariot and my sweet fire bow and spear were gone. Eddy tackled me and held me down to the ground. Returning the favor, he gave me a punch to the face, and then screamed, “Who are you?”

I had no choice but to answer him, I had failed. How was I ever supposed to save the planet, if I couldn’t beat a simple human in combat? Then I told him my story. The story of A1 and the story of A2, and even some of my own story all the way up to the point of our jump.

“A1 burned up in the atmosphere, and when me and A2 landed, he was just a pile of dark red goop. Then A2 forgot how to breath.”

“Wait, Wait, Wait. You’re trying to tell me that two of God’s three elite Angels just died by forgetting how to breath and burning up in the atmosphere?”

“Yeah, pretty much.” I answered him. He just started laughing. I guess that it did sound like a ridiculous story. If it wasn’t true, I don’t think that I would have believed him if he was telling me.

“So, you’re supposed to go around and find all of the lost souls?” Eddy asked me.

“Yep,” I answered him, “And you’re going to help.”

“What? No, No, No. I have to go find my son and wife. I haven’t seen them in forever. I can’t get caught up in all this. Why would you want me to help you anyway.”

“Trust me, I’m going to need all the help that I can get. You seem capable. Listen. In exchange for your help, I can get you a free ticket up to Heaven. A free ticket for you, your wife, and your son if they’re still alive, and maybe I can even hook you up with some sweet angel wings.”

“Wings? Why don’t you have wings?” Eddy asked.

“Don’t need them, I learned to fly without them.” I responded.

“Eddy Demakis.” Eddy said, sticking out his hand with a smile on his face. I shook it, “Count me in.”
