Author’s Note: This a competition poem that was rejected. :( However, I do want to know what you guys think, because obviously you’re more important to me :). While you’re reading, give it some thought, and tell me what you think.

And yeah, I actually had to research and stuff. To find out about Monarch butterflies, about how they migrate, and the chrysalis process, and everything! phew So tiring. :P

Sovereign

When the fledgling buds

Burst into bloom

A journey begins.

A cycle sets in motion.

A cacophony takes flight.

I observe the horde

Of Monarchs,

Procession parading by

Their regal wings held

Higher so loftily

Higher. Soaring

Across the seas

Reaching their sanctuary

Flop in a relieved

Hibernation.

Once green casing

Now dried crackled clear.

Escape.

I yearn and seek

Cocoon-less freedom.

I feel the wind

Soft beating wings

Whisper.

Through my veins

Alive again.

Unleash the angel within.
Gold filters through

As I take flight

Released.

Twirling and twisting

Newfound delight.

I glance below

My cousins waiting

Cautious.

With encouragement, and

A leap of faith.

Revel in bliss

A new vibrant life

Short-lived.

An anticlimactic

End to my reign.

I wish to swim

Amongst them.

A montage sea

A ginger midnight on

Heavens speckled blue

Let loose all troubles

Lost in the breeze.

As the yellow chick

Snuggles behind the dim-lit

Horizon, I know

The day is nigh, for

This Monarch flutterby.

A/N: How was it? I’d love it if you clicked that little button in the corner. :D Leave a review, and rock on. ;)
