Tired eyes. Everyone had acquired dark circles under their eyes.
Then they left us, like a leaf subtly floating down to the cold, brown earth.
She sat in a corner, a crowd besieging her with calm words and pats on the shoulder. Pink colored her eyes, and tears sprang from them inconsistently.
Of course, that’s the downside of going to such a small school. Everyone’s affected.
Why do some people attempt to conceal their grief? It gets them nowhere. They are not comforted, as they never show they need it.
In the funeral home, the lights are bright. Cars crowded around it; the funeral home has a lot of business this week.
“Now, we realize that this incident has deeply affected many of you…” The microphone must be screwed up, because the students may as well not be hearing Mr. Principal. Most were either dabbing their eyes with tissues or letting out their grief in the arms of another. As for myself, I was experiencing that familiar stinging sensation in my nose, the feeling I get right before the tears come.
Gathering together has brought their hearts closer, letting them know that they are not alone.
They are not alone…
