Forgotten Beauty

Delicate slipper

With your sparkling gems

Sewn upon your golden exterior

You were meant

To be worn in the ballroom

Or the palace

Admired by the elite, and

Envied by the rest

Your silk surface shimmering

Your sole unscathed

Yet you’ve journeyed

So many miles

On clumsy feet

That loved you so

Because you made them feel beautiful

Over long roads

And muddy courses

You’ve trekked

Your luster fading

Your sole battered and torn

Now your beauty is gone

And with it that love

You’ve been banished

To the depths of the closet

Your gems forgotten

Your soul torn
