French Australia
I gazed up at the podium and screamed out the protest slogan along with the rest of the crowd. Out of the corner of my eye I watched as the policemen came running up and grabbed at people. There were screams and shouts as people were beaten into submission and carted away.
I ran, dodging police batons and the odd chair. I turned and watched as one of the chairs hit a policeman in the head. At that moment, another policeman came flying at me. I leaped to the side as the policeman crashed into the dirt and kept running to the end of the street. Before I rounded the corner I looked back at the podium to see the president's grin widening as he witnessed the chaos.
He leaned forward to speak into the microphone. "I, President Jean-Claude Dupont, hope that this will teach you that we, the people of Australas, need this new legislation and that violence isn't the answer.
He smirked and made his way slowly down the stairs with his numerous bodyguards in tow. I controlled the impulse to jump back into the fray. I didn't need to. We had a sniper up in the north tower of the nearby cathedral, setting up a shot.
The plan was that our sniper would throw rocks at a nearby bush. The bodyguards of the president would, of course, stop to investigate. That would mean that the president would have to stop too. Our sniper would set up his shot and take it while the bodyguards were poking around the bushes and never get caught. Then we would get a new leader for Australas and be freed from the tyranny of President Jean-Claude Dupont.
How do I know so much you ask? I am the leader of the resistance. And now was my perfect chance of escape. But first I had to make sure that we were successful.
The bodyguards stopped and turned sharply towards the bushes on their left, lifting their guns and aiming. They closed in on the bushes but there was a deafening crack and the president collapsed. Mission Accomplished.
I turned the corner and ran towards the docks - and my ticket out of here. I ran up to the boat and paid the captain. I immediately rushed into my pre-assigned cabin and watched the chaotic scene around the president unfold. The bodyguards and policemen were rushing around, trying to find the sniper. But our sniper was too sneaky for those idiots. He was already making his way over to the boat. I watched him as he paid the captain and came inside the network of cabins.
I waited a few seconds until I heard a knock on the door.
"Come in," I yelled and our sniper, Maurice, came trudging inside. "You did well," I told him as he sat down in a chair and took his boots off.
"Yeah," Maurice breathlessly. "But it was hard. They are really well trained guys."
"But now we just have to sit back and relax while watching our work unfold."

Two days later we arrived at a small group of islands. We checked into a hotel and turned the TV on. We were just in time to catch the last part of the news and to find out that the opposition leader of the former president had just been announced as the new leader and that he was immediately fixing the warped legislation that we had opposed so much.
I slumped back in my chair and only one thought went through my brain:
We did it.
