The Blasphemy of a Shadow

I’d watch through your window
I’d stake out ‘till nine
I thought you were perfect
I thought you were mine

I’d set up my camera
You’d pose through the glass
We had something special
I valued your class

We had a secret bond
Only two could share
But when you brought her home
You had an affair

I thought you were happy
I thought that you cared
Then why when confronted
Did you appear scared?

Then you became violent
And you threw a book
I tried to convince you,
You called me a crook

It wasn’t meant to hurt
When I grew distraught
I thought I’d provided
The love that you sought

Because now you can see
This wasn’t my fault
When you became languid
Your breath seemed to halt

I didn’t believe you
I slept there all night
I made sure you were well
You put up no fight

But then I kissed your mouth,
And you didn’t kiss back
And I tried to wake you
I tried with a smack

I had failed to arouse
You from your deep sleep
Though I fought against it,
I began to weep

I am sorry, my dear,
For what I have done
Just know I will see you
Once I find my gun
