Prologue
“Hey Demitri, take a look at this,” Jamie called, looking up from the dusty volume. She had found it in Demitri’s parent’s antique shop.
“I’ll be right there Jamie,” Demitri answered, almost tripping over a vase as big as he was (which wasn’t hard, as he was small for his age).
The antique shop was vast and crowded. There were old maps and charts in piles on the floor, vases stacked in the far corner. There were statues and magic relics pushed to the front, and in the back, almost in a room by itself there were books, lots of books. Old dusty volumes stacked high, well over a seven-year-olds head, it was almost as if the books were trying to imitate the trees they once were.
When he reached Jamie, Demitri asked with a spark of curiosity growing inside of him. “Well, what is it you’ve got?” “It’s a spell,” she said pointing furiously at the page before continuing, “it creates a magic gateway to any place on earth.”
“It looks hard,” Demitri whined, “maybe there’s an easier one in here.” Demitri pulled a book out of the middle of the nearest stack, sending all of the books on top of it tumbling down on top of him and Jamie.
“Jamie, are you all right?” Demitri asked from under the books.
“Demitri, you’re an idiot,” came Jamie’s muffled reply as Demitri’s parents came rushing in to the room.
“Demitri Alexander Aristhrox, what do you think you’re doing?” called his mother as she snapped her fingers causing the books to fly back to there proper place. Jamie quickly ripped the page with the spell from the book before it flew away
“Ahhh…nothing mom,”
