Sonnet (To His Lover)

Expel your soul as though it were a sigh

And turn each mirror round to face the wall.

Anoint your head with oils and flowers dry

And let these fingers ease your deathly pall.

Now cool your burning throat and fevered brow

And clutch a ros'ry dearly 'twixt your palms.

Allow your paling lips no lasting frown

And close your ears to tearful keening psalms.

Now let your heart lie still within your chest

And let your eyelids gently drift and close.

Let not your brain deter you from your rest

But mute its cries and fall into repose.

My love is greater than this world can hold

So let us meet beyond this earthly fold.
