“The sky is falling.” She said absentmindedly, gazing from the open balcony at the stars and city below.

“It always is.” He wrapped his arms around her from behind and held her tight.

She rested her head against the doorframe and sighed. “I want to fall with it.” Her melancholy voice echoed through the silent bedroom.

“Whatever you want, baby.” He nuzzled her closer.

“You love me, don’t you.” It didn’t sound like a question. She turned to him, deep blue eyes glistening.

“Of course.” His low voice soothed.

She kissed him lightly upon bruised lips. “Then let me fall.” She spoke just above a whisper and then leaned back against the cold iron bars of the fifth floor balcony.

He stared at her a moment, memorizing everything he could take in. Her ebony mascara caressed the soft skin under her eyes, faded scarlet clung to her lips, her voluptuous figure seemed so fragile bathed in the city lights. He smiled sadly. “You already have.” His strong voice resonated defeat. He took a step closer and held out his hand. “Now let me catch you.”

She looked away, the wind rushing by to sweep up her tears. Her breathing staggered and she tried to hide it. “I’ve already shattered.”

“Let me pick up the pieces.” He took another step closer.

“There’s too many!” her pensive voice broke into a scream.

Now it was his turn to choke back tears. He took a deep breath to steady his voice. “Without you, I have no sky.”

She felt the cold iron against her thighs contrasting with the heat of tears pouring down her face. “Don’t say that.” her voice caught in her throat as she shook her head slightly.

“I wouldn’t lie to you.” He closed the distance between them. “Please. Starve the sky and stay with me.” He brushed at the water staining her pale face.

She fell into him; realizing that he was the solace she longed for.
