So still, darling
-

I did not ask you, (darling),
to be still. You crept
behind me, laid a grease-stained
hand on my shoulder, brushing
hair from my neck
with a gentle-fingered kiss,
putting your breath
close to my eager ear, so
those noiseful crowds could not hear
how beautiful I was.

And, (honey), since the bench
beside me was cold, you
joined me carefully—never has
a smile been lost on you.
My (dear) love, how ever did
you learn to be this
still?
