( have i still got
y o u
to keep me warm? )

all i feel is loneliness,
the bridges since abandoned
by everyone who has
gone —

and there is no word to
describe it.
grey waters and fog
and bleak horizons.

( but he says:
“it’s warmer
than warm.” )

i did not believe him
for a second or a moment.
how can something be
warm when it is cold?

frosted over—
but he just smiled
“nothing is lost.
it is just frost.”

( why are you
so
carefree? )

i do not know
but it touches me
down to the core,
and i am warm.

( have i still got
you
to keep me warm? )

like a handprint on my heart
he touches me, and
i feel like i
belong.

author's notes :: i don't know how to feel.
