Chapter 3
Kelsie
The halls of the high school buzzed with activity. It was the week of the Senior Prom and all those involved where busy with decorations, ordering supplies, music selection, DJ hiring and everything else that the spoiled class of 2011 had demanded, even if it meant going over budget and having to have each member of the class of 2010 to chip in 50 bucks.
Luckily I wasn’t part of either of those classes so I didn’t have to do squat. Course that also means I couldn’t go unless someone invited me. Not that dad would let me. I had a meeting to squeeze in on.
I’ll tell you what; I was so ready for this transformation period to be over with. No more getting up at six to catch the bus. I could sleep in…like….well all day, because I wanted to...and I’d fry if I didn’t. That and I hated chess. Honestly, what is the point of the game? I’d gone to the compititions and watched the geeks sit and stare at that bored like it was life or death. And unfortunately, that is where I was headed. Room 345. During classes this was a history class. Not sure which one, we had several that were offered. But when classes were over, it turned into geek headquarters. When I got there, I looked in the window.
Shelly was in a corner reading a book. If there was one girl that needed a bite it was her. Course she could fix that if she wanted to. Fat and stinky with a bad attitude, Shelly didn’t care about anything but her books and anime and took crap from no one. I didn’t like listening to her cause despite being a geek, she had the mind set of a wrestle jock. She thought she could cream anyone, though the truth was they just tried to stay clear of her, especially when it was hot out.
The rest of the crew where hovered over a chess board. Daren’s modified bored it looked like. He had changed it so read like a map. He had several of different areas on different boards. The white pieces represented them, the black, us.
Daren was a smart cookie. He was all in to sci fi and stuff. Mostly Star Trek. He wrote a novel sized piece of fanfiction once. He usually made up all the plans for attack. Next to him was Elizabeth. She liked anime and was decked out like character…spiked short hair, funky jewelry…the works. And there was Ceria. Another big girl but she was pretty fun to be around. She and Lizzy have been friends for years and could pretty weird when left together. And lastly there’s Dustin. He transferred about a week ago and is the ‘vampire authority’. He believed he knew all there is to know about vampires, which still makes me laugh. They were discussing the other nights attack.
“How stupid was that? I mean really. Vampires are strong. What’s the point of dog-piling one?” Dustin was asking as I walked in. He too was looking over Daren’s maps. I don’t think he had ever seen them before.
“Kelsieeeeeee!!” screamed Elizabeth and she ran over and hugged me. “Daren think he’s come up with a working plan. Dustin says the vamps hold some sort of ceremony or something or other in a few days. All we need is the location and…then…well I dunno exactly what he wants to do. I wasn’t listening.” I rolled my eyes and shrugged her off.
“What ceremony do vampires have?” I asked Dustin as I walked up to the board.
“You know, blood rituals and stuff. I have this book here that says they have to do blood rights and sacrifices every three months.”
“Oh…why?”
“….I haven’t gotten that far yet.”
“Well the only place suitable for that would be secluded areas, or private property…so that leaves us three locations. Here, here and here,” said Daren, pointing to several places on his boards.
“Which is the most likely?” asked Ceria. “I mean we can’t even get to one of those. None of us can drive.”
“Hello Ceria, we’ll take the bus. Besides, I think the old hotel is the best bet. I don’t know how we’re going to get in there though. Its been closed for five years.”
“If it is the hotel, and we do get in, then what? We don’t know how many will be there, and like Dustin said, vampires are tough dooty,” said Lizzy.
Daren shrugged. “We’ll go down to the hardware store and see if we can’t find anything to help us out. The hotel is bound to have stuff in it we can use too.”
