The confusing story of a teenagers life

By: Laura Bumpus & Alexis Skarupa

Chapter 4 "Dates”

I woke up thinking, “Great another school day.” But then I remembered that today was the day I was going to tell Evan.

Alexis had been going on and on about him since that first day and now it was March. They were friends and all, and I could tell that they liked each other. They never asked each other out. Today was my big day, too. Chris was taking me to the skate park, and I couldn’t wait.

In the morning, I got on the bus and waited for Alexis. When she got on she said, “Guess what Katherine told me yesterday?”

“What?” I asked.

“You know Connor’s cousin Cody?”

“Yeah”

“Well, finally, they’re going out!” Alexis said.

“Who knew that was coming,” I said sarcastically.

We laughed but then I got serious.

“I think Evan likes you.”

“What?!” Alexis yelled silently (we were on the bus.)

“You know he does and you like him, too.” I decided not to tell her that I was telling Evan that she liked him, today. I looked her in the eyes, she just dismissed it with a wave of her hand but I saw a glimmer of hope.

“So,” Alexis said, “Are you excited about the skate park?”

“Yeah, I’m so excited! But, Alexis I’m serious.” I was going to say more but Chris got on, so I just gave her a look.

“Hey, Chris” I said.

“Hey, can I sit with you two?”

“Yeah,” I said.

“Whatever,” said Alexis.

We talked about other stuff till the bus got to school.

In homeroom, while Alexis was talking to one of her friends, I walked over to Evan. He looked up and said hi but then looked back down to the note he was writing. I glanced at the note and looked away then looked again. Alexis’s name was on the top! I scanned it quickly. He was asking her out himself! I must have looked like some foolish clown, I was smiling so big.

I couldn’t help but asking, “Evan, are you asking her out?” He looked up quickly then looked around for Alexis, saw she was talking and looked at me.

“You promise you won’t tell yet?” he said pleadingly.

“Well Duh I won’t. She’ll be so surprised.”

Evan looked nervous at that so I said “In a good way. See ya later.” I couldn’t wait to tell Alexis, wait – I couldn’t wait to not tell Alexis.

The bell rang and everyone sat down. Me next to Chris, and Alexis behind Evan and next to me. I smiled at her she gave a half smile. We stood up to say the pledge and in came Mrs. Elena.

As soon as you see her you get that feeling that something evil is lurking deep inside of her. She has grey frizzy hair, and black beady eyes. The first day she was nice, but soon afterward she was evil. The only was she would be nice was to the strait A+ people. She always got on my nerves. Every one hated her except Anna and Garrett (the smart people.)

Class took forever to finish, but finally the bell rang, when we walked out the door I looked back and saw Evan handing Alexis a note, and I knew she was going to smile like a happy clown. Evan walked away when she was reading the note, then she started to smile and ran over to me.

“Guess what Laura, Evan asked me out,” she said excitedly as she jumped up and down like a monkey.

“Really?” I said.

“You knew, didn’t you?”

“Well… hey look here’s Katherine.” I said as she walked over

“Hi” said Katherine.

“Hey what’s up peeps?” Chris said out of nowhere, scaring us all.

“Hey,” we said.

“Laura, I’m going to talk to Katherine, okay?” Alexis said.

“Okay,” I answered, “Hey Chris what’s up?”

“Nothing…school, you ready to skate?”

“Totally,” I answered.

“I’ll see you then. Bye!” Chris said. I looked over to Katherine and Alexis, they were gone; wait a minute everyone’s gone! Great I was going to going to be late, again. I ran down the hallway to Mrs. Erin’s English class. She was just as bad as or worse than Mrs. Elena. She had the same beady eyes, but her hair was silver not grey, big difference.

“Buzz,” the bell rang just as I stepped into the door.

“You’re late,” she screeched.

“Well, technically I wasn’t late,” I explained.

“You’re going to get in trouble,” said weird old Zach Pardue in a sing songy voice. I thought I was going to get in trouble, so I braced myself for an attack.

“Zachary Pardue, what did you say?” she asked in heavy German accent.

“Ummmmmmmmm,” he said.

“Well,” she said, “I give up you’re hopeless, go to the principal’s office!” Zach glared at me I just snickered.

“And for you …just sit down,” she said with a sudden burst of kindness. I sat down in my seat which was next to Alexis and Katherine, of course.

“That was close,” said Katherine.

“Hey, but at least you busted Zach!” said Alexis.

“I wonder what else will –,”I said but just then the fire alarm rang.

“Fire Drill everyone. Get in line,” said Mrs. Erin. We filed out of the school in an orderly line just like we’re told. Soon the rumors that the fire was real were going around.

“Laura is this interesting enough for you?” asked Alexis.

“Not really,” I said. I got out my MP3 and started listening to Jonas Brothers Year 3000. Soon everyone was around me listening to it. Everyone loved that song. It turns out it was just a drill, the excitement had gone away and we were back to English. Katherine. Wrote the longest note about Cody and suddenly the bell rang. Finally, English was over and on of the rest of boring school day ahead of me.

Lunch was uneventful as ever. School was over and we were on the bus going home, Alexis was freaking out about going with Evan to the movies tomorrow, and Katherine was freaking out about going to a football game with Cody. So I decided to shut them up.

“Okay, first of all you like Evan right?” I said.

“Well, yeah,”

“It’s just like Shane, hmm.”

“Actually I never liked Shane I just went out with him because I was kind of jealous.”

“Oh, well that doesn’t matter, it still the same,” I told her, “And Katherine just be quiet! You are perfectly fine.”

“Duh, Laura we’re not stupid.” Alexis offered.

“Okay you guys good luck, and I’ll see you tomorrow,” I said.

LATER…..

“Hey, Laura what’s up? You ready to go?” Chris asked me. We were going to the skate park and I couldn’t be any happier than I was known, and it just made me like Chris more. We got in his car and there was an awkward silence till we got there, because his mom was driving the car with his older brother.

When we got to the skate park, I found out it was bigger than I had imagined.

“It’s a good thing you taught me how to skate, or I would have made an utter fool of myself,” I told Chris.

“Yeah, but I didn’t show you all I know,” he replied.

“What, are you going to show off,” I asked him.

“Well of course,” he answered, “next I’m going to take you to the Grand Canyon and show you my dare devil stunt by jumping off the Canyon on my skateboard and dying!” he said laughing.

“Are you serious?!” I asked.

“Yeah!!! I saw it once in this skate magazine but, the guy didn’t die he had a parachute!”

“Sometimes I don’t know what we are going to do with you Chris, wait we can throw you down a bottomless well with Zach Pardue.”

“No, don’t send me down a well with that lunatic, he’s retarded,” Chris laughed.

“Come on why not, well anyway let’s go skate now,” I told him. So then we went and skated for the longest time, it was the best time I have had in a long time. Before I knew it the day was over and I wish it wasn’t. I lay in bed thinking about the great day.
