Pain Runs The Deepest
She could barely hear anything else.
Her hands trembled in disbelief.
She couldn’t comprehend his words,
For she only heard blood.
Her hands suddenly itched to wring his neck,
But she knew she could not do that.
She never would.
Was it her fault?
Was she the reason he turned fickle?
No,
She knew it was not so.
He began to walk away from her.
He was leaving her.
Leaving her alone,
And extremely dejected,
And extremely confused.
What was she to do now?
No pain had ever hurt this much,
And she knew not what to do.
Her feet brought her home,
Up the high steps,
Into a dark seclusion.
Flinging herself onto the large cushion,
She could do nothing but weep.
The bleeding wouldn’t stop.
She continued to weep silently,
Crushing her pillow between her hands.
Her mind repeated over and over,
Why?
She got a sinister feeling of wanting to die.
Tears soaked the wrinkled, ashen pillow.
Why?
She wanted answers from him.
She wanted them now.
Her silent cries became infuriated.
She croaked aloud,
Why?
Angry sobs racked her body.
She shoved her face into the pillow,
Clenching the cushion tightly.
She thought spitefully,
When did betrayal ever get the best of her?
When did betrayal learn to hurt her so much?
She wanted to break something,
To ruin something,
Just as damaged as her heart was.
Tears continued to stain her face,
And her hands,
Her oh so trembling hands,
Continued to squeeze the pillow beneath.
Her love had taken a menacing turn.
Love was no longer sweet,
No longer kind and reassuring.
Love was cold.
Love was cynically amused.
And it taunted her.
It tormented her weak mind.
She wanted to drown into the covers.
She wanted to disappear,
Or to be wiped off the face of this Earth.
Her eyes grew red and tired,
As no more tears came forth.
Yes,
Pain never did run this deep before.
Her body fell lax,
And sleep soon claimed her.
