The Dragon laid on cold ground, his left wing folded in a way that protected the Princess sleeping underneath from the wind. From here he could see the Castle and the village surrounding it.

It had been little over half a month since the Knight had intruded the Princess and his nest, claiming that all he wanted to do was save the Princess and become her husband. That exact day he and the Princess took to the skies, leaving the Knight far behind as they traveled to the Princess's previous home.

Tomorrow, they will barge in the King's court, and the Dragon will let the King experience what happens when the Princess becomes this outraged. He gave a slight dragonish chuckle at the thought. Oh, how he couldn't wait for tomorrow.

Later, as the sun rose higher in the sky, the Princess awoke and climbed on the Dragon's back, settling in between the joints of his wings. The Dragon launched into the sky, but didn't go very high, and easily sailed down to where the village was beginning it's day.

Villagers screamed as the saw the black dragon circling above the castle, slowly descending. The Princess laughed, despite the situation, knowing that the Dragon was fully enjoying terrorizing the humans.

Inside the castle, the King was calling forth his greatest warriors, and priest's. “How do we destroy this monster!” he shouted, “It has obviously killed my best knight, and has come for revenge!”

The priests huddled around, wondering if holy water would kill it, while the warriors sharpened their weapons and discussed battle plans. However, one young, still in training knight, looked around and noticed something peculiar. “Milord,” he asked, “Where be the Queen?”

The Queen was atop of the highest tower, watching the black dragon lazily come down. “Greetings Dragon!” she yelled when she was sure they could here her. “And Welcome home, dear daughter!”

“Hello mother!” Cried the Princess from above. “Where is father now?”

“In the Court room. Please be gentle dear, he is not as young as he used to be.” the Queen yelled with a smile on her face.

“I will try!” The Princess yelled as the dragon took a swift turn and dived at the large building where the Court room was.

Everyone scrambled as large legs crashed through the roof and came to rest on the polished wood floor. Even though everyone had been expecting it, they couldn't do anything but stare as the Dragon's wings folded and came to rest at it's side.

“Father!” The Princess called out as she stood up and slid down the wing that the Dragon had partly unfolded. “You need to explain something to me!”

The King watched, amazed, before realizing, yes, this was his daughter. But she was also in a very bad mood. And like the Queen, her bad mood was very harmful to others.

“Princess!” the King said, forcing a smile. “You are safe!”

“SIT!” She said, her face displaying her fury wonderfully. “Why did you send a knight after me? And why did he seem to think that you promised him my hand in marriage?!”

“Well.. um, you see...”

“No, we don't see.” The Queen said as she gracefully entered the demolished hall. “Tell us, dear husband, why you went behind your daughter's and I backs and betray the pact you promised to us?”

The Priests and Warriors were stone silent as they watched the two royal women gang up on the King. “Pact?” The dragon said, scaring many, “Princess, I fear I had no idea of a pact.”

“It was a simple one.” The Queen said, her voice pleasant as she talked to the dragon, yet still glaring daggers at her husband. “Our daughter would be allowed to go with you, and no one would be sent after you two. In exchange, I would not say a word about the many Mistress's the King has to the Priests, Since we all know that adultery is a major sin.”

The Priests looked at their King in a new light. And here they had told their superiors that their King was perhaps the most sinless king in all of the world!

“Mmmm.” The Dragon hummed, pretending to be deep in thought. “I do not know very much about humans, but among dragons, breaking a pact, with kin none the less, is as bad as breaking a law.”

“I say that's fair punishment.” The Princess said. “How about you, Priests? What do believe the King's punishment should be.”

The Priests, Queen, and the Princess discussed idea's, in front of the King who was beyond frightened. Not the kind to be left out, the Warriors also abandoned their King, and offered idea's for a fitting punishment.

Finally, it was decided that the King was obviously not fit to rule. And since the Princess, who had not intentions on staying, the Crown would be passed to the Queen. The King was then thrown out, with only a handful of coins. Satisfied by what had happened, the Princess once more climbed the Dragon's wing and settled in between his wings.

“Have a safe journey,” her mother said as she bid them farewell. “And please, don't get yourselves slain.”

“As I promised long ago, your highness,” The dragon said gently, “I will let no harm befall your daughter, and my wife.”

After that, everyone lived happily ever after. The Queen ruled the kingdom till the end of her days, and was said to be the best thing that ever happened to the kingdom. The ex-King became a bar keep, and was able to forget all the troubles that plagued a ruler. The Knight, who had stayed at the Dragon's den, finished the cow that the Princess had been working on, cleared the decaying meat and bones, and polished all of the Dragon's gems. Pleased by his work when they returned, the Princess pulled some strings and landed him a job as a butler in her mothers court.

As for the Princess and the Dragon... A wandering Mage happened to pass their way, hearing from rumors of the pair. Feeling pity on them, The Mage used an ancient spell and transformed the Princess into a sapphire blue dragon. The two had dozens of hatchings, most of which had trailed to far distant lands and fell in love with humans as well.

The End.
