A libertine injects his final bliss,
devoid of hunger for a higher cause,
lusting for freedom to conquer his mind—
the cost of freedom: death.

A politician sends out troops and guns,
devoid of righteous urge to heal or help,
lusting for freedom to conquer the world—
the cost of freedom: death.

A farmer leads his helpless herd to Hell,
devoid of love to tend his sacred kine,
lusting for freedom to hunt after gold—
the cost of freedom: death.

A mother hires a mercenary blade
devoid of will to strive or persevere,
lusting for freedom to conquer her life—
the cost of freedom: death.

A self-made martyr loads a shaking gun,
devoid of will to work for purpose high,
lusting for freedom to conquer his fate—
the cost of freedom: death.

Such lust does not befit our human race,
which has no right to kill for wanton ends,
rusting, corroding, for freedom unearned—
which lost the sacred breath.
