our bones

(you held me like a lover.)

your knee in the appropriate
place but it did not stop the
tears. and my heart was
on the line
as our bones slotted
into place like pieces
that went missing from a
jigsaw puzzle.

(even if god said that we were not.)

had you touched the
right key, i would still
think about you. &
even now, with your
new girl, i cannot
help but think ‘does
she make you scream with
wild touches?’
or is it just lust,
not love?

(i prayed for His forgiveness, but-)

and i cannot help but think
‘what about me?’
and the times our bones were
one like we were to each other.
or the times we hid under
cushions to hide our
disgraces (from the eyes
of god, because he watched).

(oh, we did sin.)

but even now as i tremble,
at your retreating figure
(once again, once again)
and the feeling of our bones
parting ways like a weeping river.

did you ever stop to think
what about me?
