Ok, so I hope you all like this! It's my first original story ever, so bare with me! I hope you all like it! Leave reviews, please! Oh, and I could obviously use title ideas, so if you have any good ones, leave 'em in a reaview, please? sweatdrop
“I’m coming, Lahre!”
A girl with beautiful long blond hair came out of the ocean, her short blue sundress plastered to her thin figure and a teal pendent dangling off of a silver chain around her neck. She wrapped a towel around her waist and walked over to her friend, another girl, this one with short black hair and thick black glasses.
“…Kali, why do you never wear a swimsuit like a normal person…?” The one with black hair asked the other.
“I don’t wanna,” the blond called Kali answered. “Why do you always have to wear skimpy bikinis?” She signaled to her friend, who was indeed, wearing a skimpy yellow bikini.
“Boys,” she answered simply. Kali sighed.
“Well, on another subject, at least tomorrow’s the last day of school,” Kali said cheerfully.
“Yeah, 7th grade has been hell!!” Lahre said, laughing. “Oh well, after tomorrow, it’s not our problem anymore!”
“Yep! 3 months to do whatever we want!” Kali smiled and put her hands lazily behind her head.
“So, basically you’re going to spend your whole summer in the ocean?” Lahre asked, smirking. “Just like last year?”
“Yeah, pretty much!”
“Dude, you’re hopeless!” Lahre said, playfully hitting Kali on the shoulder and running ahead.
“Hey, cheater!!” Kali yelled, giggling and running after Lahre.
I wonder… will this be the year I meet him again…?
“Yo, Kali, come back into reality, you air-head!”
“Wha-?” She quickly spun around and looked to Lahre, who had her hand on her shoulder.
“Come on, stupid, the bell rang 2 minutes ago!”
“Oh! Sorry!”
Once inside the school, both girls skipped past their lockers since they didn’t even bother bringing their backpacks to school and went straight to homeroom. They seated themselves next to the window at the edge of the room, as always. Lahre turned to her.
“So, you wanna go to that new coffee place downtown after school today?”
“Nah, I’m going down to the beach.”
“Aw, come on, Kali, it’s a half-day, you can go later!” Lahre had a small pout on her face.
“Nope, sorry, maybe tomorrow,” Kali said, looking away… for the love of all that was good and holy, she hated that face…
“Aww, pleeeeeease?” Her face looked almost like that of a big-eyed puppy.
“I already told you, no!” Kali said, trying to ignore that face…
“…Hmph, you’re no fun!” Lahre scowled, but it had a playful feel to it.
“I see a dog.”
“It looks more like a bunny.”
“A bunny doesn’t have a long tail.”
“Yeah, but the rest looks like a bunny.”
The two talked like this, waiting for the time when the living nightmare would be over…
Soon, everyone was counting down together, Lahre and Kali with them.
“10…9…8…7…6…5…4…3…2…1…” The bell rang out.
“Nya, school is over!” Kali stood up and yelled. Soon, every person was rushing to get out the door, while the teacher was frantically trying to hand out final report cards.
“Now, please give these to your parents! Oh, Jen Mitchell, please stay for a moment.” A girl with short brown hair sighed and walked grudgingly to the back of the room.
“Man, I got an F in math! My mom is going to kill me!” Lahre said, sighing exasperatedly.
“So, I got a D+ in English… I never was one for writing,” Kali said, shrugging it off. “A few minutes of ‘I know you’re brighter than this’ and ‘you’d better straighten up these grades if you wanna get into a good college when you get older.’ The usual.” Lahre laughed.
“Yeah, our parents can be such a drag!” She said, still giggling. “So, you sure you don’t wanna go out and do something together today?”
“Yeah, catch ya later!” Kali said, walking down a side path away from Lahre.
“…You are one hopeless little freak, my friend!” Lahre yelled after teasingly to Kali.
“And you’re normal?” Kali yelled back.
Kali slipped off her uniform, revealing a purple swimsuit. She quickly dug through her bag, pulling out a cream colored sundress and slipped it on. She stepped over to the ocean, dipping her feet in.
To think… that summer a few years ago… that was when we first met… She thought, looking into the cyan sky.
She was able to remember it like it was yesterday…
A 7-year-old Kali stood on the beach, her blond hair falling just bellow her shoulders. She played happily in the waves, away from her parents. She was humming to herself and picking up seashells that washed ashore, collecting them in a small bucket. The small waves brushed softly at her ankles.
“Ah, this one is so pretty!” she shouted out, holding up a shell that was almost pure white. Instead of putting it in her bucket, she put it in the pockets of her cream shorts. “There, now it’ll be nice and safe!”
As she happily collected shells, lost in her own little world, she failed to notice a particularly large wave coming up behind her. She heard the loud roaring, and quickly spun around, just in time to see it crash down on top of her.
Next thing she knew, she was underwater, small bubbles escaping her lips. She struggled to figure out which was to swim to get back to the surface, but the poor girl was confused and unable to think properly. She quickly started to panic, being unable to breathe. She clasped her hand over her mouth, trying desperately to stay conscious. She was scared; she thought she was going to die…
Suddenly, a pair of arms wrapped themselves around her waist. She looked behind her, but she was unable to see because she was underwater. She didn’t know what happened next, though; she fell unconscious.
When she finally woke up, she was laying on the beach again. She rubbed her eyes and sat up, someone holding her back to help her. Surprised, she looked back and saw a boy with short blond hair and azure eyes staring back at her.
“Hey, you’re awake!” He said, smiling at her cheerfully. “Are you ok? You almost drowned!”
“Yes, I’m fine,” Kali said tiredly, stretching. “Are you the person who saved me?”
“Yep!” he said cheerfully. “My name is Kale! Nice to meet you! Who are you?”
“I’m Kali!” she said, regaining her normal behavior quickly. “It’s nice to meet you, Kale… hey, our names begin with the same letter!” She giggled. Kale thought for a moment, then cracked a smile as well. “Hey, yeah!” he said with the same lighthearted air in his voice.
“So, how did you find me?” Kali asked curiously.
“I was just lucky, I guess!” Kale said, smiling at her sweetly.
“I’m lucky, too! I got saved and made a new friend!” Kali said, then blushed a little. “…Well, if you consider me your friend, that is… most people say I’m too weird…”
“Of course you’re my friend, Kali!” Kale said, looking shocked that she would even say such a thing.
“That’s good!” Kali said, smiling. “So, do you live around here, Kale?”
“Well, not really…” He said, rubbing the back of his head a bit nervously. “…Actually, I’m not supposed to be here…”
“What?!” Kali asked, her small blue-gray eyes going wide with shock. “Well, I guess you should go back soon then, I guess…” She looked down sadly; she finally found a friend, and he would have to leave…
“Yeah…” He said, also sadly. He brightened, though. “But don’t worry, I promise you we’ll meet again!”
“…Really…?” Kali asked, looking up.
“Yeah!” he said, pulling something out of his pocket. “…Here, keep this, Kali!” He handed her a beautiful pink seashell.
“Are you sure want to give this to me?” Kali asked, looking at it with interest.
“Yeah! Just think of it as my promise that we’ll meet each other again!” Kale smiled at her again.
“…Ok!” Kali said, smiling brightly. “Just make sure you come back!”
“I will!” He stood up and started walking towards the ocean. “I’ll come back to you, promise!”
“You’d better!” She yelled back at him playfully, although she had half meant it…
Kali smiled at the memory; ever since, she had waited every summer for him to come back to her like he had promised her 6 years ago… she knew it was foolish, and that she would probably never see him again, but she couldn’t help it.
“You’d better keep your promise…”
