Prologue/ Ice

Matty:

Cold fingers slide across warm flesh. I shiver. It was just like having someone move an icecube down the center of my stomach, though it was less wet...

I reluctantly opened my eyes to stare at the ceiling for a moment. "What's going on?" I attempt to say, but it comes out a incoherent babble. Whoever it was that woke me placed their hand flat against my bare stomach. I had to force my eyes downwards to get a look at the person who had so selfishly woken me up.

"Go-" Daren began to speak, but I had already grabbed the pillow under my head with both hands, and was attempting to smash his face in with it.

"How in the four Hells did you get into my apartment?!" I yelled at him, while using my feet to kick him off of my king-sized bed. I heard no reply for a few seconds, so peaked over the side of the mattress to see Darren lying on his back on the hardwood floor with his arms behind his head. His raven hair, messy and shoulder length, was all over her face, doing well to hide his dull, green eyes, and his thin lips were curved in a mischievous grin. "The door was unlocked," his voice was light and casual, "I always knew you were gay."

"What did you call me?!" I jumped off the bed, trying to stomp his chest, though I was so light, he simply huffed, then grabbed my legs to make me fall to the floor beside him. "I'm not gay, and there is no way that your can prove that I am."

"You were practically moaning," I glare, a bit confused now, "When I ran my hands along your skin, you enjoyed it. Too bad you woke up before I could test you further..." I hit his shoulder with my fist, making him flinch slightly. I may be small, and not exactly muscular... At all... But I found that I still have the ability to cause people pain without much effort.

"Welp," Darren sighed, "I have to get to work now. Just came to bother you for a moment." He jumped up, straighted his waiter's uniform, and then headed out my bedroom door with a wave. "I'll see you when I get off," I heard him call, just before the front door slammed closed.

"What a dick," I mumble. I can never think of anything else to call him besides that. 'Me? Gay? What. A. Dick.'

"Here kitty, kitty, kitty," the sadistically calm voice called to me. I crouch behind my bed, between it and the wall, tears in my eyes, and holding my knees to my chest. This was too unreal. He didn't even sound like himself. I shuddered as I heard footsteps come closer. My apartment was pretty much in ruins by now, and it was only a matter of minutes, maybe even seconds before he found me. I had no where to run, no escape routes. It took a lot of my willpower just to keep from whimpering.

"Come to me, Matty," Darren called again, "It won't hurt for long, I promise."

The bed creaked slightly under his weight. I knew that he found me already, even without actually having seen me yet. I simply cover my eyes, too afraid to do anything. How could my best friend do this? I knew him since the first grade, and never once had he shown any signs of being, well... Crazy.

Suddenly, I felt a hand start at the base of my neck, then push through my hair. "Matty, why were you hiding?" I looked up, hoping that when I saw him this time, it would be somebody else at the very least, but it wasn't. "D...Darren..." Darren smiled at the sound of his name, then spoke to me very softly, "You're so beautiful, but you know, you're even closer to perfection when you're terrified."
